Seems legit and not at all like the fear-mongering you all claim to hate so much!

You think that is sustainable for months? Yeah the government is helping businesses make payroll. But businesses don't operate just to make payroll for their employees. They need revenue like you and I need blood. You can’t be this dense to think what we are doing now will sustain anything for an extended period of time.

Never once said that.

of course

Never said anything about that, either.

I said your "great depression 2.0" rhetoric was sensationalist doom-casting.

And it is.

You were off about the initial impact of this virus, and now you're doubling down and fear-mongering in the opposite direction to compensate for your moving goalposts. (i.e. - "Okay, so it was worse than I thought it would be, but these restrictions are more harmful in the long run anyway and I always knew that!")

At least that's how it looks to me. To each their own. Hope you're wrong again.

I don’t know medicine. But I do know business. And if we hit the projected 32% unemployment then we’re fricked. If you can’t see that then you’re blind.

Might as well keep it to April 30th now. Let the numbers keep improving and open it all back up May 1st.

This is my comfort level with the risk/reward on both sides of the issue as well. Everyone is already prepared to do what they are doing now (whatever that is) until the end of April anyway. If the numbers remain constant, we are on top of the peak now. Lets ride the downslope for a couple weeks so we don't have to do this all over again, hopefully anyway.
The other side of that is IF we open it back up and it spreads quickly again, you may never get even half of the people that stayed home through this to do it again.

his point is that your "32% unemployment" projection is just as much fear mongering as the projections that said 2 million Americans would die from COVID

I think April 30 is a happy medium. Any later than that though I have zero confidence in our economy being able to recover for a very long time.

IAM not trying to be a jerk. I understand the impact this will have. IAM talking about the few in here that don't have underlining problems that say let the old and unhealthy die. IAM sitting at home with two screwed up disc and 4 to 5 veretbre that need to be fixed. Trust me, I want everything opened up.

Not worried about myself. I have a mother that is 81. And my dad died last year.

And to the other poster, a three month old died yesterday from China virus.

Due to my heart I’m very much one of those people at high risk. Thankfully my job allows me to work from home. I’ve been doing so since March 13th. I realize there’s a good chance this thing would kill me. But I also realize what happens if we don’t open things back up by the end of this month.

There is no reason why my office can't go back to having people in the office a couple of days a week.

A lot of companies have been doing this for a couple weeks now. Your office is just a little slow to get with it.

Social distancing is working -- let it run its course. Open it back up now and you'll just have to do it all over again.

You can open many business and still practice distancing. In fact it might be beneficial as most people are congregated in the few open venues

Unemployment is already probably about 13%. And it’s estimated it could go over 30% if this continues. For some perspective, the highest unemployment rate during the Great Depression was 24%. It took us a decade and a World War to break out of the Great Depression. During that time 12 million Americans died as as a result of the Great Depression. Is that what you want? Because unless we open things up soon, what’s coming will be worse.

Man, you are a dramatic little Nancy boy.

Tough times call for sacrifice.

This economy will bounce back, as we live in an extreme capitalist society. Planning ahead of time for yourself and your family should not be an optional event.

Be responsible.

Should we reopen the economy,

You can open every restaurant, hair salon and snoball stand in the country it ain't gonna boost the economy until people feel comfortable spending money and that won't happen as long as there's that 14 day virus lurking around infecting 1500+ people a day.

Are you making a major purchase when there's a chance you OR a coworker contract CV19 and you get quarantined for half a month?

Can we also make people who purchase alcohol and/or cigarettes, drive fast cars, bungee jump, skydive, swim with sharks, operate vehicles, etc.....sign a similar waiver?

What about for those who don’t show up to work on May 1st and are fired can’t file for unemployment or receive government benefits?

Of course not, dumb fricking post.

If those things saw an increase of millions of occurrences in only a few months and caused resources to be overwhelmed, you bet your arse that would be happening.

Dumb fricking post.

Hang in there Darth. I got a stent, kidney disease and diabetes. Was very athletic most of my life. Last two years I noticed hands started shaking and legs giving out. Not looking for sympathy but just stating how some people on here are ready to sacrifice people. Keep safe.

Good news is that our economy's success is entirely disconnected from your confidence level in economic matters
