The greatest density of tornados is northern Alabama.

Wouldn't doubt this is true. There is one little area NW of Huntsville Called Harvest That I remember being hit really bad,4 times in my life. They just keep building the houses back.

Then another little town West of Huntsville, Named Tanner, that has been hit bad 3 different times. Matter of fact, the same tornadoes Hit Tanner first, and track NE to Harvest.

Texas is almost the size of the rest of the top 5 combined. Not too surprising

Yeah but are there many tornadoes outside of north Texas?

"My Little Texas Tornado, blowing me away again
I swore it wouldn't happen again, but I looked at you and then
I'm like a tumbleweed in a wild west Texas wind
You're blowing me away again"

I have owned a farm in Oklahoma for a few years. The area in southern Oklahoma doesn't get too many tornadoes but when they happen, it's devastating. an older man I knew died in one a year ago.

Florida is high on tornado count but the tornadoes are usually very weak. Since 1950, there have only been four Florida storms that reached EF-4 status and the state has never seen an EF-5. I think a vast majority of Florida's tornadoes have been spawned by hurricanes impacting the coastline.

EF-4s are much more common in Mississippi and Alabama. And Alabama and Oklahoma have seen more EF-5s than any other state in the union.

I thought most of the Florida tornadoes were in central Florida around Orlando and the like - some weird weather pattern with the shape of the peninsula that causes it or something. But they only get really strong ones up north.

Having spend a lot of my life in the area, I can also tell you that central Kentucky and southern Indiana ain't no joke when it comes to tornadoes, either. Not surprised to see it as one of the densest areas in the country for F3+ level tornadoes.

I really like both areas, but If I owned land there, my house would be underground. Or Maybe just build a really nice storm shelter and live in a mobile home. When the weather gets bad, go sleep in the shelter. If The mobile home gets wrecked, buy another one and move it in next day.

What a stupid question. Texas is the size of the asteroid threatening the earth in the Bruce Willis instant classic Armageddon

Somewhere still packed from the latest move, I have a Polaroid from 1969 in Tampa my Dad took from the front yard. 5 individual funnel clouds reaching down, 1 on the ground and 1 waterspout on the bay.

The Midwest isn’t even the region most affected by tornadoes.

You live in TX and are surprised it's #1??

Why do you assume the OP lives in Texas? OP said:

I was shocked the number one was Texas. Don’t hear about them there that much compared to the Midwest states

Refers to Texas as "there" and not "here" makes me think the OP doesn't live in Texas.

Go build an ICF house(insulated concrete foam)and you will not have to worry a bout tornadoes anymore. My house has walls that are 14 inches thick and can withstand small arms fire, including a .50 cal.

It is tornado proof except the upstairs. But even that is supported by 2 by 6 boards and hurricane straps.

Insurance and utilities are cut considerably. Very energy efficient. The problem is that is is expensive but it is worth the trouble if you live in tornado prone areas.
