Ireland > England > Michigan
1650's 1720's
Changed our Irish last name to common English name to ease assimilation.

On my paternal side of the family, my grandmothers family came from England in the early 1600's and were some of the earliest British Colonists. One even led a "revolt" against an unfit local leader in Virginia. Later both her maternal and paternal side fought in the Revolutionary War. My paternal grandfather's family came to the US in 1828 and settled in Saint Landry Parish. They were from Ingwiller, in Alsace-Lorraine, France.
On my maternal side, both of her parents lineage came to North America from France and then to Louisiana during the great Acadian Migration after being expelled from Canada by the British.

For every generation, family roots expand exponentially. It is stupid to say something to the likes of someone's family immigrating from "XYZ" in the 1800s, when in reality, the average person would have had at least 16 great+ grandparents from that period. So unless you are from Alabama and your family tree looks like a pole, your family probably immigrated from many different places.
