My maternal side is 100% polish and moved here around the turn of the 20th century. My dads family is Arky through and through. Ive never been able to suss out any verified history pre-Arkansas. I think the majority are descendants of British people that settled in the Carolinas. My grandfather used to say we were Jews but he had all kinds of crazy theories.

Father’s side immigrated to Virginia from England/Wales in the early 1600’s. Direct descendent was a contractor who worked in the area, and did work for the governor who refused to pay him for work he did at the time, but instead wiped his taxes he owed clean. The Irish side didn’t do anything that we’ve found of note. Don’t know much about them.

Mother’s side immigrated to Louisiana in early 1700’s as part of the John Law’s travels by way of Alsace–Lorraine, settled along the German Coast, and many who have actually never left far from where they supposedly first settled. Other families include John Folse’s family (Foltz), as well as Oubre, and many other German families who settled the area to farm and cultivate the area. Also mother’s side were French people by way of Venice under French Rule. He was supposedly a French soldier who when decommissioned or whatever, left for Louisiana in early to mid 1700’s.

My moms side: DeCUIR - Albert deCuire, was a native of Macon, County of , Hainaut, (an ancient countship which is now mostly in southern Belgium near the French border. Albert's ancestor's are noted in Macon as early as the year 1535. Albert deCuire migrated with 138 families from Hainaut to Louisiana with four of his children in 1720 from the Port of Lorient, and settled at Pointe Coupee. These Hainaut families were among the first permanent families to settle in Louisiana - and their group has been likened to the Mayflower of Louisiana. Their descendants number in the thousands. The Avoyelles branch stems from Albert's great-grandson, Marcellin DeCuir, who moved from Pt. Coupee to Avoyelles and settled at what is today Longbridge. Marcellin was my triple great grandfather.

They weren't the rejects from Canada. Real french people! They came up the Mississippi.

Dad's side: Our surname was first found in Silesia, where the name came from humble beginnings but acquired a significant reputation for its contribution to the emerging mediaeval society. It later became more prominent as many branches of the same house acquired distant estates and branches, some in foreign countries, always elevating their social status by their great contributions to society.

Goes back to Germanic barbarians!!!!!

One side came from Nova Scotia in the early 1800s I think. Other side came from Poland after WWI. The side from Poland was also Jewish, and I am extremely lucky to be alive right now.

Direct ancestor on fathers side came over from Belfast in the 1760’s to the Carolina’s and fought in the American revolution for the good guys. His son ended up moving to Mississippi terrritory and fought in the war of 1812. After that they settled in noxubee county MS and stayed there until my grandad moved them to the ms gulf coast in the 1960’s. Still carry that family name which is cool. Also, some Germans that came over in mid 1800’s on my paternal grandmothers side.

Mothers side came over from Dublin sometime in the early 1900’s but don’t know anything about them. Both grandparents on my moms side were orphans in New York City during the 1930’s and neither know much about their family other than birth certificates saying their parents were Irish

My ancestry says I’m mostly Irish with some German/Finnish in there. I don’t tan well

Arrived in New Orleans from Bavaria in 1854. Got a land grant in Madisonville in 1860 and have been here ever since. I’m living on the last portion of the original 140 acre grant. My kids are the seventh generation to live here. Some have strayed and lived elsewhere but we always end up back here on our inherited section of land.

Extended lines came from England, Sweden, and the Netherlands from the late 1600’s to the mid-1750’s. A lot of them fought in the American Revolution. Most immigrated to the Pennsylvania/New Jersey area but made their way south to Louisiana via the Carolinas and Georgia. Some settled in Kentucky around present-day Fort Knox.
