When’s the last time you had a true nightmare?

I’ve had creepy dreams and “light nightmares” but man, I just had a nightmare to the level it has to have been decades since I’ve had one like this where I wake up 100% disturbed. Got to thinking how often people have that level of nightmare. Google says it’s common but man, if so, there are a lot braver people than me going to sleep every night lol

Is a nightmare just boogeyman crap or real life stuff?

How fricking old are you that you’ve had time to have a nightmare and post about it before midnight Central Time?

Zyrtec gives me nightmares. Try to stay with Claritin or Allegra, but sometimes it’s necessary to double dip because of an allergic reaction.
Took Zyrtec today. I am going to be taking it for the next few days. I’m automatically assuming nightmares are incoming.
Side note……my kids reacted the same way when they were younger. Haven’t given them Zyrtec since.

It was actually from an accidental nap. I feel asleep at 8 and woke up at 10

you're not alone
Around 10 years ago I went from having the normal calm dreams that we all have to these constant intense "Lucid" dreams where I would wake up exhausted, out of breath, and feeling like someone beat the shite out me.
and what was really alarming was that the dreams seemed so real that I would remember them hours later. Wrap your head around that...most dreams, no matter how intense, you won't remember for more than a minute after you wake up.
I took a deep dive into the cause. Won't bore you with the long details but..
alcohol and magnesium levels were the cause.
I've always taken high quality individual vitamins and supplements but never worried magnesium since I'm on a mostly plant based diet but I do like my evening cocktails which interfere with magnesium absorbtion and greatly increase magnesium excretion.
The solution for me was Magnesium Glycinate supplements which are absorbed very easily by the body unlike cheaper forms of magnesium and cross the blood brain barrier.
No more crazy dreams. I sleep a full 8 hours without interuption.

I had a dream the other night a big creepy bug was in my wife’s hair and in real life I was on top of her thrashing her all over her head trying to get the bug out.
Both her and the dog were like “wtf dude!”

It was confusing for everyone.

The day I saw the lady get thrown off the bridge without a bungee rope, I had a dream that it happened to my wife. I was like frick what if I actually lost her.
So to be on the safe side, I started to play with her boobs as if it was the last time. She woke up and then the nightmare started.

Seems to be the only time I have them

I don't know if I'd call them nightmares so much as just unsettling

I have terrible dreams if I sleep on my stomach. I figured that out when I was a teenager, and have slept on my back or side since. When I have a fricked up dream now, I usually wake up having rolled over too far.

This was definitely a nightmare. Like with me screaming in terror in my dream for extended periods

See… this doesn’t happen often at all, but depending on my exhaustion…. I can let my mind go very rarely and as I’m falling asleep, my mind’s eye becomes a some sort of artistic slideshow of the coolest, most metal/psychadelic art ever. And it will snap from image to image about every 2 seconds. Very cool and I have never heard of anyone else who has this happen to them.

I have never had the slideshow effect you mentioned (and I'm going to guess the specific manifestation is unique to the individual), but I have had some damn strange dream and pre-dream experiences. A fascinating phenomenon of human nature to be sure.
