my first legal alcoholic drink was a Vodka Sour at a bar on Bayou Bienvenue in Chalmette.
ETA: And apparently I'm too old to remember the bar name.

Am Mart, same place I usually bought it before I turned 21.

Bought a case of budweiser at a gas station in Grand Isle.
They didn't even ask for my ID.

I remember going to the Varsity that night. I don't really remember anything else.

I do. At LSU during the summer, was so excited to finally have to show my id. Went to dinner and ordered a drink, didn’t card me. Went to the Shell on college @ Highland and bought beer, didn’t card me. Ended up going to 4 more places before someone finally asked for my ID.
And not a week later got carded by an old lady cashier at Walmart on Seigen buying a R rated movie.

There was a bar/convenience store in the parish that would sell to anyone as long as they were tall enough to put money on the counter. The cops never messed with them (no idea why). So this whole "legal drinking age" thing was not all that big a deal for those of us growing up in that area in the 1980's (and probably for those growing up there earlier as well).

Circle K on Brightside. I was so proud to walk up and legally show my ID and pay for my beer....the bastard didn't ask for my ID. I walked out with my head down. Haha. If you know me, I'm 35 and look 16 when I'm shaved. I could only imagine how young I looked when I was 21 and shaven.

Don't really remember. By 21 it wasn't that big a deal I guess. I drank in high school... then 3 years of drinking pretty much everyday in the Navy by the time I turned 21.

Mine was at the Winn Dixie on tchopitoulas and I was mad when I didn’t get carded

When I turned 18, that was the legal age and remember drinking way too much around midnight (when turning 18) but all of the drinks were bought for me. I can't recall legally buying anything before the law changed about a month or two later (back and forth several times).
When I turned 21, I was on a short vacation with my parents (Pensacola I think) and they bought my beer at a restaurant that day. Two days later, I was with friends in Lafayette at a bar but can't recall if I was carded.

I got to experience it twice.
I was legal at 18 for about 3 months, then the age was raised to 21.

January 26, 1990.
I was a senior in HS, in a metal band
and just landed this hot blonde named NEVERMIND from Central.
Walked into a Circle K (circlequeer back then) near Jones Creek and bought a 6pack of Bush tallboys with MY OWN legit ID.
Blondie knew my b-day had been that Wednesday, and planned a very appropriate and appreciated gift.
At 18, it was amazing, but years later it was honestly on the low-end of the mediocre spectrum...

Well, I turned 21 in Riyadh Saudi Arabia where there was no drinking so I would say O'Hare airport on my way back from Saudi, 3 months after 4 months after my bday.

All of these stories about not getting carded...
When I was in high school and the first couple of years of college, if I didn't have someone to buy for me, then statistical probability was my go to method. I would set what I needed on the counter and if they asked for ID I would walk out. After a while you find places and employees more likely than not to not ask for ID.
It ain't illegal to try...

I bought a bottle of mescal and crystal skull vodka. Total was $69.69
I figured it was a good sign.

My first legal beer was on my 19th birthday at a casino on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls

I turned 21 on a Saturday. I went to the Albertson's around corner from my house at 10am. The cashier saw that it was my 21st birthday and asked what time I was born. I said 5:30pm and she told me she couldn't sell it to me until then. For a second I thought she was serious.
