I would use some isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab sometimes to get the damn game to work

as I the only one who would push the game in about 95% of the way and push down causing it to kind of slam down hard?

Me too.

Sometimes you had to put another tape in on top to keep it pushed down more.

That was seriously part of the charm. You got such a sense of satisfaction when your particular ritual would work

I don't think I ever blew into the console. I would blow into the game and sometimes push the game in and out a bunch of times.

I blew into both.

If that didn't work, we'd put the game in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes. Everything would always work after that. Just coincidentally, but my brother and I were convinced that we were the greatest minds of our time.

Can't remember, something about a self imposed ban though

Game first

Then game then the system

Then put the random game on top of the game you wanted to play. Never failed, almost

If blowing in it didn't work a small amount of spit would. Real talk.

Did it take anyone else about two decades to beat Zelda?

I used Nintendo Power, so it only took me one decade.

I started playing super Mario bros 3 at age 8 or so around the year 2000. It legitimately took me 10 years to beat it. The first 5 were just because I couldn't and the last 5, something would always happen and the game would turn off or get bumped or something. Finally got good enough to beat it in like 15 minutes so that wasn't a problem after 10 fricking years

Yeah, some of those Mario games took a damn long time to beat too...great games. Metroid was a bitch to beat as well.

Nintendo had some of the best games ever. One of the best things was celebrating getting to Mike Tyson in Tyson's Punchout and having him knock your azz out in about 6 seconds.

Its amazing. No one had the internet back then, yet kids all over the country knew to blow trick to get the game to work.
