It's insane how much they charge now. Only go for Lobster fest.
We walked out last time we went. Not paying 26 bucks for pasta at a chain resturant..its not even amazing food like Harry's which is chain but puts out insanely good dishes and unique ones.

I'm old enough to remember when a trip to Plank Road was considered high end.
I'm from Central baw. We used to frequent Plank in the 80s. Never even once thought about it being dangerous.

he first red lobster in BR opened on Airline and Florida Blvd around 1980. 1981 guy who works there kills the manager and a bunch of other staff in a robbery. After closing. Place supposedly was a blood bath. Chased em around the place and killed them in a bunch of different areas of the place.
I'm pretty sure you have your restaurants mixed up. That exact scenario happened at the Calendars on Perkins near Essen. It's been a few different things since then but it was still Calendars for 15 years or so afterward.
I worked in restaurants for a long time in BR and that story was well known, but it was definitely Calendars. Maybe something like that happened at the RL by Cortana too, but I sure don't remember the incident.
There was a Red Lobster on Florida Blvd next to where Eathan Allen was, by West Marine, during the 1970’s. A manager was murdered in the late 70’s and the place closed down and stayed empty for several years. Then the building was razed and the slab sat a couple of years then Red Lobster built another brand new restaurant on the same spot. It was open several years then closed and sat empty before being demolished. A few years later they built the current one at Mall of Louisiana.

The food, experience, and the clientele ruined the establishment. Also the decor. The restaurant would be awesome if not for the food, the experience, the clientele, and the restaurant were totally different.
OT post of the week.

I keep inviting to treat Shooter Mcgavin, but he's always too busy

Saw Jaws at the Robert E Lee theater on Plank. It was a beautiful movie house. Plank was the place to go.

Why would anyone in South/Central Louisiana go to a Red Lobster when there's an infinite number of better choices?

Piccadilly in Delmont Village. Howard Bros on Plank and Airline. Sad what that part of town has become.

Never, did go to a Steak and Ale in the '70's.

The Red Lobster murders were at the Florida blvd location happened in 1977,
"He said his accomplice in the break-in at the Red Lobster Inn restaurant in Baton Rouge stabbed Mr. Schmidt more than 30 times and shot him in the head."

The built another Red Lobster in the same location in the late 80s, early 90s

What about Sizzler?
Sorry, same response. We had surf and turf a couple days a week,
so eating out wasn't a need.
They sound yummy!

I don’t think I’ve been in about 10 years.
Used to go a decent bit when I was in my young teens because my little sister loved it. I don’t remember liking it that much. It was the one in Jackson next to Olive Garden. There were times me and my mom would go to Olive Garden while my dad and sister ate RL because me and her both would rather have had OG. At least it’s decent
Seafood has to be fresh imo. Just not a type of food that can be done well at a chain restaurant, or really any restaurant more than a few hours from the coast. I never eat it unless I’m on the coast, buy it fresh to cook, or am anywhere in Louisiana

Never been to one. I always heard they were crap and always had better options if I wanted to go out to eat

I have no clear memory of ever being in a Red Lobster. I was dragged into a Captain D's once, but I knew that was a horrible mistake going in and just made the best of it.
I actually can stomach Capt Ds better than RL. RL menu has dishes that really need fresh seafood and to be prepared properly.
Capt Ds is just fried cod or catfish and is ok for a cheap seafood meal.
Their catfish products actually come from the catfish company I manage a farm for

About 10 years ago, we got a gift card and went to spend it.

I would consider my self a seafood snob but I use to frick up some Captain d's.
For what it is, it's fantastic.

I live on the Ms Gulf Coast where we have a ton of really good locally owned seafood places that serve fresh seafood. Why in the world would I go to Red Lobster?
