For me i work over 10 hours a week overtime and don’t get paid one red cent extra. I do get competition bonuses and a very nice salary though
All jobs are different. For me, my base nearly doubles with per diem, the OT is extra brokerage money. Granted, I am single with no kids so I don't mind working to make the money while I can. If I can retire a few years early, I'm all for working extra now.

Depends if the position was for 40 hours and you're constantly being tasked with 10. You fire the guy, he's going to have cause.
And yeah I get more money why complain.l, but some people value life outside work more than time and a half. You know people with family and friends they like, or have a hobby they enjoy.

You have to also ask yourself do you have the type of employees that get 9 hours of work done in 8 hours. Because that is far better than some of those “overtime hunters” that get 10 hours worth of work done in 12.

I like to work a little ot, 10 hours is a good amount. I wouldn't be complaining. Maybe make it more flexible where they can come in earlier or stay later..... there choice?

Been I business for myself along time. Employees willbitch about anything.
If they don’t like the job they can find another.
No perfect employers, jobs or employees in the world.

Some people rather spend that time with family/ enjoying life than working.
When I started working an older guy explained his philosophy on overtime to me. He said, "I work to live not live to work."

Why do you consider it “being a pussy” if you make plenty of money to provide for your family without having to make OT and value the extra time with your family more than making a few extra dollars?
Because he's insecure about not making enough money to provide for his family with regular hours.
All you hourly dumbasses complaining/bragging about OT crack me up. Get them wrenches movin' baws, you aren't going to get my bonuses posting on TD all day.

When did overtime on a salaried position start paying more ?

It really depends on the work situation. My guys are all salaried professionals. We get OT for anything over 5 hrs extra during the work week. I really don’t like having people go over the 40 unless the situation is called for (it is required sometimes). Overall, the quality of work and efficiency dips if someone is always on OT.

It would do everybody good for the rest of their lives, to be like your humble Pimpness was in 2007. Four dependents, kids in private school, dead broke, no job. I highly recommend that level of desperation and despondency. It focuses you, humbles you and it makes you grateful for any opportunity to make an income. So yeah, I get tired of people who see opportunity as a burden, if that’s what your employees are doing.

We are all salaried but are asked to work OT when we need to, my company pay 1/2 time for OT.
We questioned it and were told it's called “Chinese overtime,” also known as the fluctuating workweek, day rate, or piece-rate pay formula, refers to an arrangement in which an employee receives half of their regular wage, instead of time-and-a-half, for any hours worked over 40 in a single workweek.
bullshite if you ask me

I think I'll just keep my high paying job. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hire another employee to cover the hours needed to make the job work. Overtime is a profit killer.

Right off the top of my head I would say hire a PRN (as needed person) at less than rate of the average OT rate but more than the average salary, then you will save money and you may find a worker that may be better than what you have. If you don't need them, you aren't required to use them or pay any benefits. If you get as many apps as you say, you shouldn't have any trouble finding someone to take that deal.

I definitely would not work OT for 1/2 what my salary comes out to an hr.
I'm fine with straight time OT because again it's over and beyond my salary. 1/2 time makes it not worth my time to work OT.

I'm salary. I get paid to do a job. I don't get paid to work a certain amount of hours. There is no such thing as OT where I work. Rarely do I have to do it, but about 4-6 times a year I'll have to pull 24 hours at work due to ongoing operations. I am pretty much on call 24/7 to take technical calls, but again it's not like the phone is ringing off the hook......very manageable. I typically call it quits at ~3 pm on most days and work by phone after that. I get paid according to the value I bring to the company and if I worked hard enough and brought a little extra, I get a bonus. I just don't understand the concept of OT for a salary position I guess. It makes no sense. Those employees just as soon be hourly.

i get paid the same amount if i work 40 hrs a week 80 hrs a week or 20.
