Well, if anyone says this, they're just straight up lying.
Take the recent controversy at NBC News or MSNBC (whichever one it is...it's an NBC outlet) where they hired the former head of the RNC to be some sort of contributor. She wasn't going to be an anchor, or have her own hour-lomg opinion show, mind you. She was hired as a political analyst. And seeing how she was the chairperson of one of the two major political parties in America, she seems completely qualified for that position. Instead, every single anchor and correspondent on the channel hijacked the airwaves of NBC to denounce the woman AND the company they work for because they hired someone "who pushed the 'Big Lie'" according to them. Almost every single one of these people accusing the woman of "tearing down democracy" also believe, and incessantly push lies such as Russia stole the election from Hillary and that Hunter Biden's laptop was a Russian disinformation operation aimed at undermining American Democracy. All hypocrites, the lot of em.
The person that hired McDaniel came out and said that the newsroom should "be united" after they fired her. But that is just a lie, because a newsroom is supposed to sort out the facts and present them to their viewers. Has nothing to do with being united or divided. It's straight up censorship.

i think it started with nixon or just before him, but it wasnt very noticeable. it got to be noticeable with George W Bush and became quite obvious during clintons term.
they pretty much DGAF anymore and gave up any pretenses at all during Obama

It would be a lot better world if the news did their job reporting facts and investigated allegations keeping our POS politicians accountable.

Probably when Journalism became a profession instead of a trade. It’s kind of a thankless job, and doesn’t require a college degree to do the work. So you get people on ‘missions’.

Best of Enemies is a really great documentary on how news became not just opinion but vitriolic narrative. Conflict and division generates ratings.

Buckley Jr. These two were known to hate each other.

I’m 40 so the first real big one I remember is Dan Rather lying about swiftboat veterans. That was the first one where I saw the lie in real time and didn’t know the news could just lie.

Two of the Democratic Party’s rising stars have been thrust into the national spotlight this week after the bridge collapse in Baltimore.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, 45, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, 42 — both of whom considered likely candidates for higher office in the future — face a key test with their handling of the aftermath of the disaster, which took six lives and will require a bridge reconstruction and port reopening.
“It is a bright reflection of the talent we have within the Democratic Party and their ability to lead in times of crisis,” said Antjuan Seawright, a Democratic strategist. “Sometimes it’s a crisis that forces leaders to rise to the top and answer the call. I think this unfortunate tragedy has done just that.”
The two young politicians have found themselves center stage nationally after a cargo ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Interstate 695 in Baltimore on Tuesday. In addition to the lives lost, the tragedy has also opened up concerns about supply chain issues, commuting impacts and funding for rebuilding.
Buttigieg, for his part, is no stranger to the national spotlight, having run for president in 2020 when he was serving as the mayor of South Bend, Ind.
Moore, on the other hand, is newer to national politics. Before he was elected governor of Maryland in 2022, he worked as a nonprofit executive and author.
“This is just another layer of exposure for [Moore],” Seawright said. “I think he’s always demonstrated the ability to not only lead but lead in the light, and I think the world is seeing what a lot of people already know about Wes Moore.”
Buttigieg’s rise — from management consultant to Navy reservist in Afghanistan to Indiana mayor to Cabinet official — came after he outperformed many establishment Democrats in the primary in 2020 and instantly gained named recognition on the national level.
“He ran a very credible primary back in 2020,” said Jon Reinish, a Democratic strategist. “This is a popular guy who has always been looked at as a rising star, one to watch, and one to follow.”
“There is a reason why Biden chose him for this job,” he continued. “He is good at this.”
When Biden named Buttigieg as Transportation secretary, after the two ran against each other in the primary, it was considered an ideal opportunity for him to prove his chops amid questions about his future political prospects. The secretary has also been a surrogate for Biden’s reelection campaign and is known by politics-watchers for his ease with TV interviews and willingness to push back on Republican criticism against the administration.

It was a gradual process. Already in the 60s most media leaned left. By the 80s they leaned even further left. I remember watching the news in the 80s and they always portrayed Reagan as an old fool who was going to get us into WWIII. But when it became overt was after Bush Jr defeated Gore in 2000. By the time Obama took power in 08, they didn’t really even try to be subtle about it any longer. And when Trump won in 16, all pretenses were dropped and most media outlets now openly operate as the propaganda wing of the Democrat Party.
