Like fantasy football?

What is a “nerd” to you exactly? Are you such a drooling Philistine you can’t appreciate anything other than the most basic slop feed to you by they media?

I'm 41 and we stuffed nerds into lockers. I have a 12 year old and it's definitely cool to be a nerd now. Not saying it's a bad thing but certainly a societal shift.

I’m not saying he’s wrong; I’m saying his position is incomplete. “Nerd shite” has almost always been popular. There’s an entire fricking room filled with unicorn tapestries at the Met Cloisters. As far as I can tell, the animosity towards fantasy, etc, is an aberration.

The second part of your post lost me nerd

An example, kids that wore glasses were picked on in the 80s. Now kids that have perfect vision want glasses. This is definitely a thing.

I have never participated in a single fantasy football thing in my life.

Wellllll, this comment is interesting because the media has been feeding me Avengers and GOT the past few years and that’s kind of my point. Comic book stuff has always had a good following but not even in the same stratosphere as what it is today.

Again, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. My kids love Harry Potter. I enjoy the Avengers movies. I tried GOT a few years ago but I just couldn’t get into it.

Sci-fi and fantasy have always been popular. Blade Runner, Star Wars, The Terminator, Dragonslayer, Conan, the Superman movies, Batman from 1989, etc.

Computers were always associated with nerds pre-internet.

Technology has and currently aids in convenience.. and with that, all people want in. Everyone Carrie's a portable computer now. Times change.

Because Hollywood is out of ideas and now that the special effects enable it, they can pump out older stories that look good.

When 20 something "nerds" became masters of the universe from an earnings POV.

Not too long ago the smartest nerds could expect a middle of the middle-class existence likely locked away in a basement or the labs in a university. Now they can make enough money that they would have trouble spending it all if they made it a 40 hour a week endeavor.

I’m not saying it wasn’t. You’re missing my point. What I’m trying to say is that, historically, the things you ascribe to nerd-dom were popular. Gen X’s grungy animosity towards all things “nerd” isn’t the norm, from a historical perspective.

Willow, Last Starfighter, Labyrinth, Neverending story, Legend, The Princess Bride, Beastmaster, Conan. Great nerd flicks.
I could go on.

Hollywood has been pushing out the same exact content for decades.

Your take is lazy.
