When did the pendulum swing?
eta: Not that I don’t enjoy all of it. It’s just when I was growing up all of the comic book / dragon fantasy world kids were the nerds and it was hardly mainstream.

When Lewis fricked Betty Childs, and didn’t get accused of rape, when she thought Stan Gable was actually fricking her.

Tons of stuff. I’m just asking an honest question.

Is it really "nerd" stuff if it becomes a cultural phenomenon? Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Lord of Rings, Marvel, etc. reach across all ages and types of people.

The internet changed it.

"Nerd stuff"?
Rape, incest, horrific deaths, war, betrayal, greed, power, revenge, etc....
What kind of nerds did you know as a kid?

You happened to grow up in a period of time where it wasn’t popular. Historically, the likes of Frankenstein, War of the Worlds, penny dreadfuls, etc, weren’t exactly relegated to nerd-dom. Hell, Dune sold 20M copies.

I'm 41 and we stuffed nerds into lockers. I have a 12 year old and it's definitely cool to be a nerd now. Not saying it's a bad thing but certainly a societal shift.
