Your sense of humor is not the same as it was when you were 15.
15 year olds probably still find SNL hilarious.

SNL stoped being funny when their attempt at humor became predictable.

writing used be better, not all skits were home runs, and they damn sure weren't all politically themed but they were above 15 year old mentality, and the audience had to at least some idea of what was going on the world to keep up

Not only will I tell you the year when it stopped being funny… 2008… I will show you the exact skit when it stopped being funny:

LINK

“Obama Plays it Cool.”

A total clunker of a skit that sent a signal that SNL considered Obama (going IN to the White House) as off-limits to mockery… and he was, for the next eight years. Past that point, the writers, cast, and audience were conditioned to think that SNL was a left-sympathetic show. And they’ve never gone back.

I want to emphasize one point… this sketch is significant because they did it without knowing that much about Obama. They projected what they thought Obama could and would be with it, and never walked it back. They showed their cards bad with this sketch.

And was it ever really funny in the first place?
It's funny in fits and starts. I didn't think much of the earlier shows either. It was pretty good during the 1990s. Even during the teens there are pretty funny skits or spoof commercials like for Cologuard and Alexa for senior citizens. I haven't watched it in full in decades but my youtube feed puts up a few a week a day they are generally funny. Now that's probably the top 10% of skits. The lame ones are probably way down the algorithm.

This was also around the time Colbert got his own show and Oliver joined the daily show. Two lying sack of shite libs that aren't funny.

When they fired Norm

Opening monologue first time invited back to host, roasts SNL:

quote:

They fired me because they said I wasn’t funny.

. . .

It’s only a year and half later and now they ask me to host the show. So I wondere, I go wait a second here, hey hey hey hey.

I go how did I go in a year and a half from being not funny enough to even being allowed in the building to being so funny that I’m now hosting the show.

How did I suddenly get so damn funny?
. . .

Then it occurred to me, I haven’t gotten funnier. The show has gotten really bad.

So yeah I’m funny compared to you know, well you’ll see later.

. . .

It never was mostly funny. Obviously had it moments but not hilariously funny overall. I’ve watched it since the beginning.
