The quality of chains varies wildly by location in terms of quality. The food tastes the same, but service and patron quality varies wildly. TGI Friday’s in northern burbs Chicago was always a pleasant experience, I don’t dare go there in Memphis. Hell even a slight step up in quality like Outback or Longhorn is a total crapshoot.

Chain restaurants in general are pretty bad.
You have convicts cooking food.
No real head chef. Corporate recipes that are as much about cost as taste.
Most dont make a lot of ingredients themselves. A lot of frozen over fresh.
It's why local resturants are usually better. The owner is usually also the head chef. Takes pride in the dishes and its creative and original usually.
Dont get me wrong. Cheesecake Factory and such are pretty darn good. But hillis and Applebees type resturants straight suck
