When did mayors and governors go from promoting their locales to wanting them to die off?

I recall mayors and governors in the past always pumping sunshine about their cities and states.
Seems like they were trying to bring in business, trying to increase tourism in any way they could.
Do they even know what a "Chamber of Commerce" weather day is anymore?

All it appears to be now is what mayor or governor can shut their town or state down the most.

What is the end game for them? To totally annihilate all business, etc that made their places what they were and make everyone become just minions of the state?

Power? They don't want just anyone coming to their city or states. They want kick backs and if a company isn't willing to play ball, then they will not be doing business.

Not being a smart arse, but can you name a single Republican mayor calling for a shutdown of their city? There may be one but I seriously am not aware of it. I believe the Democrats are all doing anything possible to harm the economy and Trump's re-election and do not care how that affects their constituents. Prove me wrong.

they pocket the money they get from the fed and little leftover stuff from the state.

Rt now new orleans will get like some extra money left over from katrina, probably like 10 mil.

But they will build projects with that and pocket the rest

I have zero respect for Walt Maddox after this covid bullshite. He's the mayor of Tuscaloosa and he can choke on a bag of dicks.

The state is handing out a little over $530 million in federal stimulus money to local governments whose budgets have taken a beating from the pandemic. That comes after Republicans directed $275 million of the stimulus funds to businesses and $50 million to front-line workers. Cantrell opposed the move to deliver the money to businesses through a grant program, arguing local governments needed the funding.

There's simply no reasoning with someone who thinks government takes precedence over business when it comes to getting an economy back moving again

These idiotic marxists would rather have 100% of $1,000 than have 1% of $100,000,000

They learned that people who are dependent on government will never vote to reduce the power of that government. A government that gives you everything can take everything just as easily.

The South Dakota Governor spent some of their federal covid funds on TV commercials promoting travel to South Dakota. I see the commercials often.

The worst part about what LaToilet is doing, well ya know besides killing business, is that she will just leave this city behind when she's not in office like the rest of the past mayors - Morial, Ray Ray (legally forced to, but still), Mitch.

She doesn't care. I didn't come up with that, she did.

There are no consequences because she'll get an NGO job paying more than this in a heartbeat the second it ends.

Imagine how boring Jaws would've been with a modern Democrat mayor.
