LinkedIn has encouraged this whether or not they realize it. The functionality pushes birthdays and congrats for anniversaries and the like. It has made the site more personalized than business professional. While collegiality is fine, I don't think the world needs another Facebook.

I’ve had my LinkedIn for close to a decade now. I have literally never posted anything.
Just filled out the profile and that’s it. People who post there are weird as hell.

I like the "hey look at me I bought a coffee for this homeless person" posts.
Or the "I'm honored and humbled to have been recognized for whatever.." posts.

I deleted mine due to all the annoying e-mails.
I'm about to delete facebook and twitter too for other reasons

LinkedIn is a virtual necessity in the business world and operates as your public resume. I don’t remember the last time I looked up a name and didn’t find a profile. Most successful people don’t really use the platform for anything other than go have a public resume or mining contacts. They’re not posting memes, only the jackasses do that.
Facebook has been attention whoring trash from the start. I know many people that never had profiles and many more who canceled.
LinkedIn is a somewhat useful career tool in my field which uses a lot of recruiters for job opportunities.
I had Facebook for years but the 2016 election and seeing a few people get fired over things they posted convinced me to delete it and Twitter.

I got my current job from LinkedIn. I don't ever post anything but it still works great to find recruiters and opportunities.

Linkedin is garbage. Only good for job hunting.

I don’t get on it that often but I have noticed a lot of people posting personal and political stuff rather than business related stuff.
I use it to keep in contact with recruiters but I get a lot of solicitation from it too. Mainly from financial advisors.

You realize this is a contradiction, right?

I have over 1,000 connections on LinkedIn. I have never made a post and I don’t read those. I just used it to message people who could be helpful to me, or I could be helpful to them. When I was a CFO I would get 30-40 requests to connect every week. Now that I’m retired I get one a week.

I worked in the sports industry for a bit and BY FAR the most cringeworthy posts were these kids announcing they'll be taking their talents to XYZ. Kids accepting a sports job out of college and photoshopping themselves as if they've just been drafted...
