All we had was one of these filled with ice water.

I remember we had like a capri sun and bag of chips after games but nothing elaborate or over the top.
Still do this for little league. Gatorade or capri sun, a chip bag, fruit snacks.. if it's bagged it's just a ziploc, nothing fancy needed.
ETA: birthday party favors need to stop though. 99% of it is junk that gets thrown away by the end of the day.

Growing up in the 80s we always had a cooler of cokes (unless some sad parent brought the Walmart knockoffs ::yak::) and a bag of chips or little debbie after every game.
We never got the bday gift bags though. The only kid who got a present was the bday kid.

I brought 12 ounce canned Yoohoo and fruit snacks for post game snacks. For 6 year olds, at 7 PM on a weeknight.
I haven't been assigned snack duty since

you think these parents do this cause they want to make the kids feel special or simply for the attention generated by doing it?
At least they're involved in their children's lives
Could be worse

Not only is it over the top, but it's also just candy/sugar poison to the extreme.

I remember gift bags at parties, but it wasn’t very common.

yeah I get all that, I'm still wondering if they do it for the kids or themselves though?

Are you mad they aren’t giving out cocain?

I remember party bags in the 90’s. My mom didn’t do that though.

Hate it. Let's celebrate the birthday boy/girl by giving every kid with a pulse a little present. That being said, my wife makes us do it every year.

The key is to volunteer for the first game. Set the tone early that's it's going to be just a brown bag with Gatorade and some snacks and not some elaborate gift bag.

More than likely they flush with adderall and Xanax tho

Came about around the same time as participation trophies
Which would make sense when you think about it. The everyone gets a trophy thing started so the teams/players that didn’t finish top 3 “get something” and don’t feel as bad.
Go to a birthday party, and only 1 kid gets free shite. So let’s give everyone “something to open” so they don’t feel left out

Party Favor bags have always been a thing IMO as far as sports you get a granola bar and a little gatorade, no fancy bags over here
Nailed it

We did birthday party favors back in the 60s. One year for my sister's birthday my Mom gave away real goldfish in little plastic bags. I'm sure a lot of parents were pissed!
