That it's his turn to take a break and hold the flag They usually look like they've been working too, not like they're out there in a clean tailored suit

All I think is... damn I hope this mf'er gets me through and doesn't stop at my car. It's trashy and small to put down what someone does for a living. Whatever they are doing, it's a necessary thing or else they wouldn't have a job. If you have to look down on others, then you have a serious inferiority complex regardless of what you do.

I often think that these workers are dealing with heat, cold, and cars that might hit them. Honest work right there. I’m sure they sweat in the heat and need water breaks. How many people would sign up for that kind of work ? Honest jobs.

Never have thought about it, but I think my thought would be, "Who cares?"

At least he's working.

When I worked as a welder's helper on a pipeline job, I was pissed at the side boom operator that made $16/hour in the early 80's. He slept under his canopy between welds. We had to wake him up to move to the next pipe. I was sweating my arse off while beating dope off of pipe with a hammer between welds.

Always think it looks boring AF. Also, can't say I've ever seen a non-male flagger. Would have questions if there were a chick working on a construction crew.

I think they don’t post on the OT because they aren’t too cool like the OT is.

I sat out one summer from college and worked construction. In this crew, new hires rotated between shovel duty and flag duty. In the summer months, flag duty sucked for obvious reasons. You're standing on blacktop cooking while dealing with a-hole drivers who don't give two damns about obeying a flagger.

Taking this job was the best decision I ever made. I made sure to finish my degree (was wavering b/c full-time work/full-time student became a drag), but I knew I didn't want to work in a job like this.

Flagging sucks.

That it’s his turn to hold the flag. Those guys rotate jobs every couple hours to cut down on monotony

Those guys normally have other jobs on the site. Just someone shouted "we need a flag man! Enrrique! Get over here and direct traffic for a while!"

They are one of the most important people on the crew. If they frick up, a lot of people are suddenly in a much more dangerous situation.

I had a crew that worked near my neighborhood for a year, making a 2 lane 5 lanes. Every time possible, I had a grocery bag full of ice and frozen powerade. They knew me and my truck after a while and would reach over and get it out of the bed of my truck. Cruise right through.
