Rates really started going up about five years ago with normal inflation stuff(higher insurance cost especially) and condos being built/upgraded to be higher cost.

Then covid hit and when Florida/Alabama opened things back up, this sky rocketed. Last summer was insane and this summer is looking worse.
People had stimulus money and other gov. relief programs to add to the pot.

Many people aren't going on cruises, traveling out of the country, or wanting to visit big cities that much so off to the beach it is.

The mountain areas are pretty bad price wise as well, so it's not just the beaches.

not really on topic with the thread, but (chinese) tourists have almost made national parks unvisitable during peak season.

Its not, but can be done cheaper. When traveling as a family, scale matters. Still only need one room, less gas and food.

Much cost for a family would be borne by a single traveler too.

Covid pretty much shut down cruises, Hawaii, Europe and other exotic travel destinations. So people who still wanted to travel were stuck with roadtripping to National Parks or Florida beaches. So demand swelled, crowds flooded in and prices shot up.

The total is $3,100 before food (since they no longer do meal plans), so probably closer to $3,600-$3,800 when it’s all said and done

I mean, you're in awe and so shocked that people spend $5k while openly stating nobody in your family drinks alcohol and clearly y'all don't do sit down dinners based on the above estimated spend. You're the outlier here. Not everyone else.

I’m taking the family in October. The total is $3,100 before food (since they no longer do meal plans), so probably closer to $3,600-$3,800 when it’s all said and done. We’re driving so no flight cost. Still nowhere near $5k.

Hope y'all are eating fast food or sandwiches in the room because that breakfast at chef Mickey is going to cost you $150 for 4

And I'm sure your kids won't want stuffed animals and stuff like that?

Driving 4 people to Disney World and planning on spending $500-700 additional on the trip including meals? Disney World is expensive as hell.

He's going to spend half of that on gas.

We usually do several 4-7 day trips per year. Those probably average around 2k each, but that's not a hardline number, it could vary wildly.

Guy is lying on here constantly. Don't really see the point when so many people are familiar with his background.

Or maybe I’m just a tightwad, who knows.

We all know this, and have known for awhile

Our beach trip is around $2,500 for 5 days. We rent a house on the beach to get away from the packed areas by condos and cook all of our meals. We don't like to go out to eat as a family right now because one of our kids is annoying in restaurants (everyone is welcome). As they get older, we'll go back to at least 2 dinners out to explore the area.

Mountain trips are closer to $4k because of the touristy kid themed shite

We cancelled Disney w/ the COVID stuff, but I think that was in the $5k range

Because everybody and their sister's cousin from TX, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, GA, IL, MO, etc.... wants to vacation in Gulf Shores / Orange Beach. The demand for condos is insanely high and investors keep building and expanding the 30A area. Condo owners can basically charge what they want and most people will pay it. Those on a budget or shopping prices will book at The Phoenix I or Islands Winds condos. If you think GS vacation prices are high, Destin and Seaside prices are 40-50% more than GS. It's all relative based on your checkbook.

My favorite vacations are the cheap ones. Drive to somewhere interesting, rent a cabin on a lake, fish/hike, cook steaks on the grill. No real plans other than that. Unfortunately my wife and teenager don't want to do that every year
