An old friend and client married a pretty rising media star. She was bipolar and completely lost it after they had their son. Wrote on the walls, took all the doorknobs off of the doors, screamed at cars going by kind of off the rails and threatened to kill him and their son.
During the divorce and custody battle she hired a lawyer she met in group therapy with money she inherited. Her mother was a serious bipolar case.
Beware.

Came back from deployment and buddy's wife told him she was seeing another man and was leaving him and taking their 2 kids.

My first wife lost her mind (I was her husband #3 and her #2 husband was paying support to her for her child whom he had adopted) and I had no choice but to slap PI's on her and file for a divorce to ensure our two young children wouldn't het caught in her narcissistic and crazy web. The divorce was granted in LA 30 days after I filed and I had custody of both children, with reasonable visitation for her. Craziness continued, but I was able to protect my kids pretty well. She paid child support to me for 15 years, mostly through wage assignment orders, she was held in contempt numerous times, etc. I did not pursue alimony, but could have received some.

The poster is full of shite because she can’t. Only the named person on a retirement account can access the funds without a court order (splitting assets in a divorce property settlement, or the IRS seizing funds). You cannot have POA on a retirement account. Once the named is deceased, the funds are distributed to the beneficiaries, who must each open a beneficiary account.

Exact scenario happened to my relative. I thought it was a stupid idea adopting her kid, but once you have a kid with one, those women will moan and complain about not being a true ‘family’ if you don’t do it. Now he’s stuck paying child support for another ten years and has the responsibility of watching the child half the time so she can get some strange D…..
