Grew up lower middle class and I guess some would consider us poor but not poverty level. We had relatives that were worse off - they were share cropper poor - so our situation didn’t seem very bad.
Didn’t have much money after college and the wife and I got into a huge fight over $.26 once. But you could almost buy a gallon of gas w/ that back then.

2014 I lost 1200 acres of premium land I was renting growing corn and soybeans. Within a matter of months all my equipment was auctioned, lost my house, vehicles got repossessed and had to move in with wife's mother for a year.
I got a good job now making over 150k and back on my feet. I learned a hell of a lot about people and family when that took place.

ETA: at one point in my late 20s, quit my job of 9 years to go back to school, took some part time internships, lived above my means. I had $50k in student loans, $10k in credit card debt, no savings and at one point had less than $100 in my bank account

In the late 90’s, I was working two jobs and going to school. Alajones2 worked also. We made like 20k between the two of us(after taxes).
I was one of “those people” that lived off of student loans. Still paying the damn things off too.
We had dinner with her grandparents and my parents at least once a week. And we’d take the leftovers.

I lived in some slummy apartments during college because I wanted to pay for it myself but have probably never been truly poor. I grew up in an upper middle class family and my dad and grandparents helped me out a lot when I was younger.

Graduated 10 years ago. Net worth was about -3k. I want to say my worth now is about 300k. No OT baller but I ain’t living check to check (I choose to be that way. Don’t really place value or want material things. I like having no pressure at the end of the month).
