What's the point of police officers if they aren't to protect? Just serve I guess.....

serve the government they get paid by that is. Do we not think that a police officers job is as follows: You were hired by the public, with public funds, to protect the citizens and their rights from day to day? I mean Who on here is a cop and thinks like the local Deputy at the sheriffs office, thinking his job is simply to enforce laws, regardless of the implications on the general public.

Welcome any commentary from any police officers on here if you have the balls to do anything without your badge

The decision, with an opinion by Justice Antonin Scalia and dissents from Justices John Paul Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, overturned a ruling by a federal appeals court in Colorado. The appeals court had permitted a lawsuit to proceed against a Colorado town, Castle Rock, for the failure of the police to respond to a woman’s pleas for help after her estranged husband violated a protective order by kidnapping their three young daughters, whom he eventually killed.

Courts have ruled the police have no obligation to protect people.

The police are tasked with investigating crimes and maintaining peace. Not protecting individual citizens 24 hours a day. This is why we need the second amendment and self defense classes

Have you ever seen or heard of a robber getting arrested and jailed? Or a thief? Or a murderer? Car jacker? Drunk driver? Etc?

Don't you think thigns are a bit safer with those people not out in public?

Is that not protecting?

I work fire/ems so I’m close to many cops, and have some distant family that are cops. I’ve seen cops on so many occasions over the years put their lives on the line literally, whether it’s protecting a crackhead or anybody else. Most of them do their job and do it well, like you are saying they should. The times they don’t, get shown around the world instantly. It’s become edgy nowadays to bash police, it’s like taking candy from a baby. People do it on Facebook everyday, bash many public entities, police aren’t gonna defend themselves to the public, they just have to wait for the story to die down. People can and will literally make up stories and share it for millions to see about their interactions with police.

Would have to check/know the specific job description/instructions given in each police district. The last thing police care about is your rights. It's like any other job. Best case is they do what they're told. Worst case is they do whatever they want to do.

Most important thing to remember is, the vast majority of police officers are below avg intelligence and that has consequences.

Where is evidence of this? Or did you just read it on TD one day and felt it was an edgy thing to say? Most police officers I know have college degrees

The Supreme Court has ruled that this is the case.

They are not mandated or required to protect you.

People need to realize this fact.

It is your duty to protect yourself.

I know I'm a dick, but I'm not trying to be here....Do you actually know any police officers? Don't get me wrong, there are good cops. The many times I've had experiences with cops, it's usually bad. They are disrespectful, accusatory, and condescending. They fricking work for us lol. f we wanted to bad enough, we could check these arrogant fricks

'To protect and serve' should be dwindled down to just 'Serve' then, right?
