I’ve been invited to several and they always got cancelled because no one committed to go.

The reality is very few people want to spend a lot of money go to your wedding.

Thank you. And yes we're going to do a reception back here. It's probably going to be a spring of 2020 deal and I like the travel agent idea.

If it's a small wedding (just immediate family and a small handful of friends) and everyone has ample means to reach the destination without straining themselves financially, I say go for it. However, the vast majority of the time, that simply isn't the case, and it becomes a huge pain in the arse for guests, bridesmaids, and groomsmen.

Also, it's one thing for someone from South Louisiana to have a destination wedding out on the beach in Gulf Shores or Destin, where guests can drive there in a day and spend a long weekend without much trouble. It's a completely different animal having it overseas.

In my opinion, if you have large families that aren't completely dysfunctional, the wedding should be close to the wife's family. Save the destination for the honeymoon. On the flip side, if the families are small, distant, and wealthy, live it up.

We did italy on our honeymoon. They should definitely go there...

But the more info we get, the more it just sounds like the future wife wants to go to italy with her parents. Seems like no other purpose for it.

I went to a wedding in Europe and it was an absolutely incredible experience. We had about a year to plan the trip. I think about 70 people went and obviously used it as a vacation as well.

Yeah, they did. We don't ever post pictures of our wedding, we have friends who do it all the time. Its almost 6 years later and its still some of our friends FB profile pics and the like.

And trust me...some of them were not happy about it. They bitched all the way until the event apparently.

at everyone saying it would be too expensive to do a destination with just the parents. Clearly they have no idea how much weddings cost.

The parents will get a trip to Italy and save a fortune, and it’s infinitely easier than dealing with a whole production.

I say go for it, OP. If that’s what you want. Hell I wish we had done that.

We spent about 5 days at our wedding resort with our friends and family. 2 days after the actual wedding we went to a different, much smaller, more expensive boutique resort for our honeymoon.

Its a dick move. Been to one, it was fun but not worth it. Most of our family couldn't make it either. Had another cousin have a wedding that he begged everyone to attend and ended up calling it of a few weeks before.

Justice of the peace and then you and the misses take a trip then use the rest of the money to invest or pay off debt or something.

Crawfishing. My point was that you can't make some general statement like "do what you want" and then tell him that he can't always do what he wants when it comes to the wedding. Obviously, there's give and take and that's from the beginning and how you accommodate each other and the family and friends.

Decadent modern America is basically Rome before the fall.

Destination weddings, like destination bachelor parties, are all part of it.

Destination weddings costs your guests a lot of money. My best friend got married in Key West and I spent a solid 1500-2000 between flight, hotel, etc.

I did it because I got a nice vacation out of it.
