But they're actually quite good. I bought one when my friend was briefly enveloped in that world so he'd stop harassing me.
I bought my first one because I felt bad for the little fellow who was trying to sell them to me. He was so awkward, and I just felt guilty not buying one.

But I ended up getting some more because I was very impressed.

If last name Ward is what you are thinking of, he opened up a Cutco office in the Houston area from what I believe. Some Jesuit kid took over his Baton Rouge office and broke records and stuff in his first year. Got a BMW and all.

A young friend of mine sells them. Looked them up. I think they're pretty legit... but still, insanely expensive. No way I'd ever pay that kind of jack for kitchen knives etc

I love my Cutco knives. Eventually I will finish my set by buying a piece here and there. Can't spend $1000 all at once. The lifetime warranty is the best deal

I have Henkels and they are worth every penny.

On a side note, graduated LSU with a guy who somehow worked his way up to a district manager for cutco (well vector). This sob makes 100k+ a year, has a company BMW, and is always traveling. I still think it is a scam but he made it. #KnifeLife

JK? He couldnt have timed his entry into the market more perfectly. Not discrediting what he did, though. He's much farther up in Vector now.

The company may be baloney but my wife bought a good many of them and the quality seems very high. I am particularly pleased with the filet knife she got me.

(one l or 2? )

you only REALLY need 1, maybe 2 elite knives. you need a chef's knife (8 or 10") and maybe a pairing knife

THIS is the best advice.

Also, you should care for them properly and they will last forever. hand wash only. absolutely do not put them in the dishwasher. learn how to run them over a honing steel at the proper angles. you don't have to be great at it but about 10-12 runs back & forth on each edge before each use will ensure a pretty good edge for a long time.

Every knife you own should serve a distinct purpose.

I have this Global Japanese vegetable knife that ive had for over a decade that I use everyday.
Global Veggie Knife

- two cheap boning and filet knives that I use for cleaning chickens and such. about $20 a piece. They should last you about a 2 or so years with good care and regular use. especially for the home chef. Hell, when I was in kitchens I wouldn't spend the money on good filet knives because the cheap ones work just as good for the amount of abuse they take.

- 9" Offset serrated bread/sandwich knife that is extremely versatile and sharp as a mofo. Buy this right now. You will not be disappointed, I promise.
Offset Bread Knife

- 10" Shun Chef's Knife (was a gift) but it's badass and probably the least used of all my knives unless I'm chopping a shite ton of veggies for a huge jambalaya.

All in all, all that above should be all that you need and should only cost about $400 total. Cutco is garbage in my opinion. Its tough to keep an edge on over time and they become useless.

I have a few Global which I really like. The flexible boning and the master chef's knife.

But I have a lot of knives including a lot of Cutco which contrary to what some have said are very good knives. I have the salmon knife which I use all the time and a big chefs knife and butcher knife. Those are ones I've bought also two of their hunting knives and have skinned a lot of animals with them.

I also have a Bob Kramer 8" chef's knife - the one made with Henckels which was expensive but a great knife. I'm on the lottery list to develop my own and if I ever get chosen I will do that - regardless of cost- because that's a once in a lifetime chance.

I want to get a couple of Ken Onion knives which I don't have.

I've also inherited quite a few Cutco from my mother (that she got as a wedding gift in 1953 and used all my life) as well as my wife's mother who got the same thing in 1963. So we are flush with Cutco. Several have been returned and replaced so yes that warranty is good and no questions asked.

Yes and CjM. It is amazing how well off they are. I am happy for him, he really bought into the system and loves it.

Their marketing effort is riddled with bullshite and is built off of young kids harassing their family/friends for business.

That said, the knives are very, VERY well-designed and would put them up against any well-respected knife producer.

If they sold them on store shelves, they'd triple their profits... unless you have a neighbor kid slinging them, they're basically unattainable.

....Kinda like Girl Scout Cookies

Not so much pyramid, but they use your kids and their college-aged friends to sell them.

Overpriced, but good. They're stamped, not forged, but that stay sharp blade design is legit.

Cutco dominates Wusthof.
I have a set of both, it isn't close at all in quality. Cutco all day.
