Too expensive. I have a set of knives from QVC, Emeril Lagsse brand. They are amazing.

They are decent knives, good for those that want a solid set but aren't into maintenence. Parents have a set, just sent off the serrated ones to be factory resharpened. I have a set of Miyabi Fusion and Warther Cutlery kitchen knives. Miyabi's are outstanding but like Shun, Global, and similar you need to use a waterstone set to sharpen them properly. The Warther knives are a great value for American made cutlery (S30V steel blades) with more traditional blade profiles.

Cutco knives are a total scam. A knife is as good as the steel they're made of and cutco is made from 440A stainless, an extremely cheap steel most often used in the type of knives sold in convenience stor
Which explains why the warranty is honored so readily. But people who have these knives do seem to like them.

Certain things I just don't understand how people pay lots of money for.
Never once have I thought to myself that I needed some Samurai-esque knife while cooking or eating.
O well, different strokes.

Go get a set of Dexter Russell aka, "the white knife", from Sam's. I have had the chef's knife for years. Stays sharp, very soft and responds well to a steel. I think I paid $20 for it.

What's your ideal price point on a set of knives? I definitely understand your logic. I'm just curious.

I genuinely have no idea. I feel like I bought a couple a decade ago when I bought a house, and that's the last time I thought about a knife purchase.

Do you ever sharpen or hone your knives?

i was helping a friend move and he had a really old (couple decades) set of CETCO knives that he said to just throw away. Told him I would take them. I shipped the entire set back to Cutco which cost me about $20 and asked if they would sharpen them. They replaced 8 steak knives, 8 other various knives, and a carving fork with brand new items, no questions asked. By far the best customer service I've ever seen.
I offered them back to my friend after and he said for me to keep them since I help him move.

The knives are crazy legit. If you are a legit chef, and you are into fine cutlery and don't mind paying. I would definitely say make the investment
On the other hand the company that sell them is complete bullshite. I was scammed into doing that for about a month during the summer after Freshmen year of college. I lost more money than I made, as well as strained relationships with friends and family.

Do you honestly think high school and college kids going door to door are selling quality knives?
Kirby is a quality vacuum cleaner, so yeah, seems plausible...

I don't understand how anybody can possibly be successful selling knives. It seems impossible.

Not the best around, but decent knives. Not worth the price though. Not sure if they still do, but they used to have a lifetime warranty that would replace broken knives and you can also send them your blades for free sharpening. Still don't think they're worth it though.

i used to agree until i started cooking a lot
you only REALLY need 1, maybe 2 elite knives. you need a chef's knife (8 or 10") and maybe a pairing knife
you can buy a Wusthoff 8" Chef's Knife for $100

I use Kiwi knives for cutting vegetables and meat. They're super inexpensive, but sharp as a razor and hold a good edge despite regular abuse.
I'm not at the point where I want to spend >$1000 on a knife set.

I love my Cutco knives. They're awesome. I have both Wusthof and Cutco, and I prefer the Cutco by FAR.
