That’s why you don’t live in New Orleans. You can’t defend yourself.
Also want to add, only 40% of homicides are solved in New Orleans, so you might just get away with it too.

That's murder bruh.
I ain't saying I agree with it, but yeah you would be fricked.
There was some big case in NYC (20+ years ago) where a woman was gang raped almost to death and as they were walking out of the room she managed to grab a gun. She shot one of them in the back killing him and the DA prosecuted her claiming that because they were no longer actively raping/beating her they therefore didn’t pose a threat to her. IIRC she spent a few years in prison.
Put me on that jury and she walks.
Hell, put me on the jury of someone who beats the hell out of that DA and they walk.

LA R.S. 14:20 does not allow for justifiable homicide solely to protect property.
And for those saying to roll him over and put a couple more in his chest, hypothetically speaking, you would need to be very specific about how you went about that. There’s this little thing called “stippling” that occurs when someone gets shot from close range. Not as legal advice, but just as an FYI…

Let’s get you straight on comma usage before you go wielding a firearm, man.

If that was my wife that DA days would be numbered.

Just make sure you go to the same church as the sheriff and coroner.

If I'm on the jury, you are innocent. If I have to be the one holdout to force a hung jury I would do it.
The way I would see it is that the situation is still dangerous until it is all the way over and the perp is completely gone. At the point when he may have turned to go, he could just as quickly turn around and demand more (your watch, phone shoes, whatever) or eliminate you as a living witness. Also, as a victim who had just been robbed, you are not in your right mind and may still feel a perceived threat even if he turned around and took a step away.
If you chase him down and kill him later that is wrong. If you see a theft in process and there was no threat of bodily harm, it is wrong to shoot.

In New Orleans, you're probably going to jail even if you shoot him in the chest. Criminals are a protected class.

Shoot him in back. Then sit him up and shoot him in front. Then say he robbed you you returned fire and blacked out.
