I'll take it over the hero complex from JBE and Latoya any day.

Thats true, the government is paying that part. That's why hospitals label everything as a covid-19 death.

Plenty of nurses still looking for work, so this argument holds no weight

If they have training and experience in ICU or ER and will work a China flu floor (SUPPLY),
then they can they can get a job today for $4,000 a week. (DEMAND)

Do they feel that unappreciated where they constantly have to glorify themselves and expect everyone to kiss their arse 24 hours a day?

Especially when the "brave" ones that go to NYC are pulling in $5k a week.

I disagree with the whole hero crap also. Look, the ones who are working are making major bank off this. Not to say they aren't dealing with bad things, but that's basically a nurses/doctor's job. I know one who was a nurse at an elective surgery center that is closed. However, somehow they parlayed it into working at a mobile testing facility for an extra $20/hr. So while it's long hrs, it's not like they're being asked to do it for free or the same pay.

All nurses are trained to work with a flu patient and even if they haven't worked ICU or ED, the learning curve isn't that steep

This number would not be this high, if they allowed the nurses they furloughed to work on those units.

There seems to be a ton of envy of nurses on this board. I am sure if you laid on a couch for an hour with a shrink you might get to the bottom of it.

What kills me is they don’t have any empathy at all for the financial duress people are under.

You've already shown that you don;t know much, please don't double down like this.

It's actually higher in places that still have the demand because... wait for it... there's still a demand that exceeds supply.

Really? I mean, really? That couldn't be further from the truth. I know a RN that hasn't worked in a hospital in 20 years.

If they are willing and trained, they're not getting furloughed. If they aren't trained then they have no business working ICU or ER.

Go back to elementary school and learn basic math. Hospitals aren't paid by nurses, they're paid by virus patients. Adding more nurses to the ICU and ED units decreases the amount each nurse gets in stipend but increases the amount the hospital has to pay in salary

Fact is hospitals aren't overrun and there is no shortage of nurses. Paying nurses more to make tik-tok videos and give supply room blowjobs is laughable

If you think that’s all ER and ICU nurses do then you are either a dumbass or just stupid.

Teachers are the worst.

That's been the interesting thing. They have always been the most attention needy group and it's maintained and even increased during this. The "I'm so stressed my 9th break of the year is almost over memes" have turned to "distance teaching struggle" memes. The "I miss MY BABIES SO MUCH AND DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THEY'RE OK" posts...when they don't seem o worry at all during summers. And above all the teacher parades through neighborhoods.... cause what kid wouldn't want their teacher coming to their house and honking at them right now

I guess that's the job description of an ICU or ER nurse. Must suck to be so emotional about someone making good money when that's all they have to do and you yourself meet the qualifications.

Yes

Teachers, nurses, etc.

They're groups of women who largely talk to other women about how awesome they are and how awful they have it and they tend to be very insular. That's why you get the distorted views.

My wife is highly educated and has a very legit career, but if you give her a job as an ice cream taster with 5 other women, within a week they'd be telling you about how society doesn't really understand the pressures that come from tasting ice cream and how other people at the ice cream company don't appreciate what they do and the sacrifices they make.
