I get it.. their jobs are important. They work hard to take care of our sick and elderly, pull long shifts day and night, and deal with a lot of stress on a daily basis. Honestly, they deserve a “thank you” every once in a while. Not every 45 seconds

Do they feel that unappreciated where they constantly have to glorify themselves and expect everyone to kiss their arse 24 hours a day? It seems like there’s a lot of insecurity in this profession and the pandemic was the perfect opportunity to seek attention. I also feel like they are rubbing it in a bit “hey I still have a job while you’re sitting at home broke.” I just don’t understand the psychology behind this, it seems like the media is feeding a monster and giving attention to a group of people who don’t need to have massive amounts of attention.

Thing is that is not the case. Most hospitals are starting to furlough employees or force them to take PTO because there is no money coming in.

The same people calling them heroes are the same people that think everyone gets a trophy IMO.

The blind worship we give to groups of people (even military) is so artificial and disingenuous because society tells us we have to do that or else we are bad people so those that need to fit in at all cost fall in line because that is what most have been trained to do.

Also, because of social media, the vast majority of people seek to fulfill the attention they feel they need or diserve using it. I saw one nurse that works in a woman's hospital post about how she was on the front lines. That hospital has zero COVID cases because it's a damn woman's hospital.

My wife is a RN treating China flu patients. She doesn't need anyone's admiration or praise.

The fat checks she's cashing is plenty enough.

The hero complex adds to the hysteria of the general public who aren't smart enough to know the majority of hospitals aren't bad at all.

I had some wonderful nurses at OLOL last Fall. Most of these nurses work long hours and deal with all kinds of crap. I appreciate the work that they are doing-COVID or not.

Not every nurse has a professional attitude but most of these young nurses are good people.

I'm friends with three of them on facebook (I know, I need to give it up) and all three of them take every single opportunity they get to remind everyone that they're a nurse and the COVID19 crap is soooooooo bad.

It's more ridiculous that they are getting paid more for right now for doing the job they signed up for.

What's even more ridiculous is that you don't understand the economic principle of supply and demand.

Explain that to the nurses being furloughed

Those nurses aren't getting the hazard pay, so not sure your point.

Also, fun fact for you. Nurses get paid extra to take certain shifts all the time, so your complaining is even more ridiculous.

hazard pay

By this logic then they should always get hazard pay because working with sick people is a hazard.

That there is no shortage of nurses causing an increase in supply and demand

Easy. They either don't have the skill set to work ER or ICU. Or they refuse to work China flu patients.

So the nurses that are able and willing are in high demand. Like my wife.
