I worked in public accounting for about two and a half years making pretty good money for a 25 year old. About a year into the job though, I realized that it was not something I wanted to still be doing when I'm 35.
After months of thinking about it, I decided to go back to school full time for engineering. I'm not married nor do I have kids, so it was kind of a 'now or never' deal. Yeah, it's tough no longer getting a paycheck, but luckily, I was able to save while I was working. There's been no doubt so far that I made the right decision for me.

I like you now.
Gave 9.75 days notice and quit a $100K job in 1997 to start my own business.

Honestly, you may be able to have fun without sabotaging your career-get 1-3 years of experience and money under your belt, then take off and go exploring. You'll still be in your 20's and young, and you could still return to a career or graduate school when you get done traveling (if you choose to do so).
THIS... or at least what I hope to do.
3.5 years into my career. Applying for graduate schools for Fall 16. Then plan on quitting my job in 2016 3-6 months before school to go travel. Will have plenty of money to keep me going on an extended trip or several trips.

Changed careers from a cushy administrative job with little to no accountability to one that making one mistake could kill people and my career.
Is that a power move or stupidity?

Left my douchey friends that could never move past high school behind and started a new life in a new city. Best decision I've ever made

I quit USL and moved across the country when I was 20 to help open a Cajun restaurant in Oregon.
I've also fricked way to many questionable ladies with no rubber, and never came down with anything.
I'm married now thank goodness

i gave the go-ahead to make a 60 ton lift setting 440 feet away from the pin of a 21000 mantowoc with a 360' boom and a 300' luffer and a 1,000,000 lb maxer in a steady 20mph wind.
(about a football field and a half)
Hummin' bird nuts need not apply.

Back in the late 70's I said "frick it" and went to Steamboat Springs for the winter to be a ski bum. I barely knew how to ski and am from Mississippi. There was a snow drought and no work. I ate soup for 3 months and came back to Mississippi broke, hungry and skinny.
No shite...Later in life, back about 7-8 years ago I had a second interview with Nortel for a sale position. I had about 20 yrs experience in the telecom industry and got drunk the night before the interview. The gig paid $80k base + commission, a car and expenses. Total package of about $160k. My wife kept saying you are gonna feel like shite tomorrow. I her I was going to go in there and tell dude..."Look let's cut to the chase, you wanna hire me. I know who the other candidates are and I'm the best, so go ahead and just hire me. Save us both some time and let's make some money". The next morning I got up and dragged my hungover arse to the interview. After a few minutes I was at a loss for words and did exactly what I told my wife I was gonna do. Let's just say, dude was taken aback. I got the job. Four years later they went bankrupt, but it was a hell of a ride.

No, I came through with the goods, they just frickin cratered worldwide, me and about 5,000 of my friends lost our jobs. It was a hell of a ride while it lasted.
I now have son who has graduated with a masters and is a 2nd Lt in the US Army. My other 2 sons are in college on academic shollys. We live in the country on a lil piece of heaven with horses, dogs and cats.
You my friend can kiss my rebel arse.

I moved my husband and I 2000 miles from home for a temporary assignment. 5 years later I grateful I am here. But I do occasionally miss the south. Life ain't ever easy....you always question the future. Just try your best to find happiness and contentment....that typically comes from with in.
