How is this even a thing. Black suit, white shirt, dark tie, black shoes, black belt.

It's a damn funeral not a fashion show.

If you don't own a black suit, white shirt, dark tie, and black shoes... I don't even know what to say, except I'm sorry you didn't have a strong male influence in your life.

What? Wearing logo'd apparel with gang script and a Raiders hat isn't the go to choice?

I mean it's black, right?

All dark (black or dark grey), unless you were very close to said person and knew they had specific tastes. When my Granny passed away, I knew she loved lavender, loved floral print, and loved bowties, so I wore a dark grey suit with a lavender button-up and floral bowtie to celebrate the things she loved.

But that won't land well if you aren't a close family member.

I just go with my normal suit, it's so versatile you can wear for any occassion.

Red shirt (for a little color) and of course a black tie. Sort of like this:

Definitely go with a vest to slightly subdue the red, it's a perfect touch:

Black dress suit of course, per tradition (you can see here how much of a difference the dark tie and vest would make for the look):

For shoes, I abide by KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid), black slip-ons like this are versatile and comfortable (and can also work with jeans or khakis):

Belt is your choice of black belt. I like a solid buckle:

My grandfather, who owned a farm outside of Isola, MS, back in the 50's had a couple of work overalls and a Sunday go to church pair would wear his go to church overalls with a white shirt under them, and he looked fine. Of course, he had an old brimmed hat he would take off and hold while inside, so he was showing proper respect.

I wish I had his level of class. Maybe these days it is a nice dark suit.

Any of those suits is fine. White shirt, dark, muted tie. Black shoes.

Some guys don't own a black suit because it doesn't get much use aside from funerals. Navy or Charcoal are acceptable in that instance.

Since you have a black suit, go with black.

Charcoal or black, maybe a dark blue. Be careful with the blue, the line between appropriate and inappropriate is thin.
