What department store was down by the bus station and Entergy downtown? Was it a DH Homes? I went there once to Christmas shop around the early 90s. Was it a mall as well or just one big store?

Maison Blanche?

That place outlasted Bonne Marche Mall. It might have out lasted Cortana had the entire chain not gone under.

I went there Sunday at around 1pm and there were a lot of cars in the parking lot but many were leaving. As I pull up some fellow pickup truck baw lets me know that the store is closed.

Was it a dark grey diesel Chevy Z71? I was there about that time Sunday and rolled down my window to do my baw duty as I was pulling out to save a fellow baw from walking all the way to the door for nothing. If I'd have known you were a fellow OT baw I would've asked for pics of your wife!

I remember when Cortana was built. All the decent folks started going there because Bon Marche mall was turning into a giant toilet bowl.

Each detail is only a little off. Memories are a funny thing. Did you have a kid with you in the front seat?

Cortana was the shite in the late 80’s and mid 90’s. There was a name-on-chain kiosk, a Piccadilly, Waldenbooks, escalators Spencer’s

I think I am 2 years older than you. I have seen you speak of places/people I was familiar with.

You could have a new transmission put in your car, or buy a Winchester Model 94 for $99.95. The Marlin replica was $79.95.

Godchaux's or Goudchaux's. I remember the commercials saying it was at 1500 Main St.

I don’t quite remember when the intersection of Florida Street and Airline Highway was a traffic circle but it was prior to becoming a cloverleaf.

Heard stories about that from my Dad. Also, the corner of Florida and N Foster, where Burger King is now, used to be Alessi’s Drive In. An American Grafitti style cruising hot spot for Baton Rouge youth.

It's probably closing. That store has had such massive theft issues that they had to start staffing a full time policeman outside.
and yet people still roll out of their with full shopping carts unchecked, heck they don't even slow down. go to waiting vehicles in parking lot ..

Who remembers when Cortana was South Baton Rouge?

I can remember (although barely) when it was nothing but willow trees- and zero crime.

Probably installing lockable cases and a one door entrance/exit.

Tonga Isle was on Wooddale Blvd., just north of Tom Drive.

The bar by Dillard's where you walked through the cave thing, at least in the early and mid 80's, was Nicky's Shipwreck Lounge. A pool table or two, nothing too big. I guess just a little neighborhood bar for the peeps in pre-hood Mall City.

Yea I can't imagine that store closing. It sounds crazy but Plenty of Sportsmen and Sports Parents come from far north as Natchez(the Alec location is just as far). So you figure Zachary, St Fran, New Roads, etc use it too.

The Sam's wholesale that was around the corner was one of the top Producing Sam's in the state. It closed because of theft
