This. Wow. No one told me what exactly was going down. I drove myself to the doctor's office (bad move). They gave me local anesthetic which doesn't work on infected tissue I'm told. Dude goes to town with a scalpel and I had to make them stop because I thought I was going to vomit. They then packed a couple of feet of iodine soaked gauze into the new hole in my back and told me to pull a foot of it out every day until it was gone. Awful.
But the worst was my Parotidectomy. They removed a tumor from my mouth the size of a large plum. Fortunately, it wasn't cancer. However, I was left with a side effect of the surgery called First Bite Syndrome. Every time I eat or drink, the "first bite" is excruciating. My brain is trying to make that gland work that isn't there anymore. It feels like someone shoves a searing white hot needle into my jaw on that side of my face. No amount of opioids or alcohol can stop the pain. Fortunately, it only lasts for a couple of seconds, but it's EVERY SINGLE TIME I eat or drinks anything. Yes, even water. It's worse with anything salty, tart, or sweet.

About 3 weeks after my head going through a windshield, tearing several knee ligaments, and fracturing my femur, I was walking with crutches and they slipped off the edge of a sidewalk. With my leg in a demobilizing brace from my upper thigh down to my ankle, all my weight came down on my broken leg. I nearly fainted from the pain.

Going to sound crazy, but Turf Toe. I've broken hands, wrist, feet etc.. but nothing has been worse that Turf Toe.

I was put under to remove mine. Recovery was pretty awful though because they leave the wound open and I had to pack it with gauze 2 or 3 times a day until it closed up. That took a few weeks. None of it was all that painful, just a bit unpleasant.

Having to surgically re-align my leg with an HTO surgery. Currently still on crutches since 6 DEC and the pain hasn't subsided.
Was told the pain would not subside until they remove the plate and screws from my leg.

This also sucked, had this done in high school. Luckily my cousin is a nurse so she was able to pack it for me. That was miserable.

I just want to say that this has been the most painful thread I have ever read. I would wince at every other post.
My worst pain would be a terrible case of swimmer's ear. I had bad recurring ear infections as a kid and had the swimmer's ear on top of an infection. It was a constant stabbing pain in my ear that got worse when I tried to sleep. I had to see the ENT every other day and get shite sucked out of my ear with a vaccum pump thing that sounded like he was sucking my brain out of my head. Alcohol and peroxide and antibiotic drops were prescribed, but burned like fire. I was in misery for over a week until we got it under control.
I've broken bones and had other problems, but the constant pain of that ear problem was the worst pain by far.

I've been lucky, for me it was appendicitis.
My dad was having a fantasy football draft and didn't want to be disturbed. He told me I just needed to take a shite. After a laxative and an hour of pushing, my mom finally took me to the E.R. After surgery, the Dr.was amazed it hadn't burst.

Waking up after a Total Knee Replacement.I thought Ii knew what pain was until that moment.
I screamed until they had put enough of something in my IV to quell the pain.
It made me totally change my thought about rating pain.

I've broken 2 ribs and that was excruciating pain every deep breath, yawn, or sitting up just right for about a month. Then my pastor at the time, who was a 6'5 monster of a dude, hugged me so hard during recovery it rebroke them.

When I'm asked to rate my pain,I say 2.
I've always thought those pain rating scales are useless. My Pops was in the middle of a heart attack and the ER nurse asked him his pain on a scale of 1 to 10. The man calmly weighed the question and said "Maybe a 4."
I never doubted his toughness again.
