Memere & Pepere. These are very popular French Cajun nicknames for grandma and grandpa

a lot of them call their Grandfather Big Daddy
I may have to tell my 2 1/2 year old grandson there has been a name change from PopPop to Big Daddy

That got some swag to it
eta: hopefully I can outlive grandma and utilize that title

Interesting. So I looked it up in my copy of “A Dictionary of the Cajun Language” and it seems for “granddad” the term would be “grand-pere” or “pepere”.

My kids called my dad Big Da before he passed (pronounced like dad with the d dropped). Funny enough when I have grandkids I want them to call me Pop Pop

Make sure it’s pronounceable … I went with Papi’ (Pah-pee).

My mom called her grandparents something like "Muh-ma" and "Puh-pa."
But they were plain ol' SW La/SE Texan cajun, not the fancy going to college and studying French types.
I've heard her say "Ma-mere" or "Mem-ere" too; not sure who got which designations.
