Did OWL participate in the Special Olympics this year? Or did he fail to make it again?

The LSU natatorium was built for the festival too.

When this was under construction we used to break in and skateboard in the dive pool. Most unforgiving and painful drop I’ve ever seen. Spent a day in there trying to get a shot we could mail in to Thrasher magazine. Never got the shot and one guys says his back is still messed up from that day.

Ouch! Treacherously rad, dude!

The things we do in our youth, particularly my friends in the 80s. Surprised no one lost an eye from bottle rocket or BB gun wars.

But if you survived intact, I presume the memories are better than a summer playing fortnite on the sofa.

They used the Lake by the sorority/fraternity row for rowing events, if my memory is right.

Fun fact - Tonya Harding competed in it, my brother got her autograph.
Edit: Google tells me it was in 1983.

Lots of “stars” participated. Flo Jo, Greg Louganis, Big John Williams played on one of the basketball teams.

Sweet edit. Should have left it as written and argued to the OT you were correct.

National Sports Festival in 85.

Slight hijack...if you look at some old City Maps of BR (from the early 80s) you will see a proposed US Olympic Training Center where the Burbank curve is near the soccer fields.

It is being stolen in pieces as we speak by highly respected mandatory daycare dropouts from Nerf BR. They are taking it piece by piece on the Catz bus. Then they are assembling it in the parking lot of their section 8 gubberment apartzment.

She did.

I was going to post that fact.

Danny Manning.

Edwin Moses and Evander Holyfield attended. Me and my brother had all access passes and literally attended all events with unlimited access. We got Moses' and Holyfield's autograph on those passes.

I remember this as I attended as much of it as I could. It was a good time back then. I remember going to watch the events at the velodrome. It was the first time I had seen those "match" type races.

Did they have ice skating? I don't remember that it was anything but summer type sports.

There a joke here about knee-bashing but I just can't come up with it.

I'm pretty sure they used False River for those. LSU lakes ain't big enough for rowing competitions.
