There used to be a motel on Airline near Highland where we bought cigarettes back in the mid 90’s. They just left all of the room doors open and it was sketchy as hell.
Not sure if it’s covered in overgrowth or ultimately demo’d.
Edit: The Watson Hotel
I really wanted to see where this place was. I can't even find a foundation or any trace of it on google earth. Must have been demo'd and then rebuilt into something else....or possibly it's completely under a tree canopy.
ETA: Looks like it might have been where the Frito Lay Distribution Center is now. This is a street view from a couple of years back.

I don’t believe it’s called the Alamo anymore. There hasn’t been a shooting death there in awhile, which is shocking considering it’s right next to the Turner Plaza housing projects on Florida.

I think it was where Casco is now if you’re looking at Google Earth. Thad Cain Ln would have been the Airline entrance.

Found an article on some of the older hotels along Airline.

The Oak Court Manor was not quite the same mid century modern style as The Shades. It was demolished to build a Home Depot and a Wendy's.
I vaguely remember the abandoned Oak Court place before the Home Depot was built. I imagine it was probably one of the many hotels between Baton Rouge and New Orleans that were hubs for drugs and prostitution in the 1970s and 1980s.
Old post card of The Shades, which still exists. This one can probably be a cool, reworked historic place if the area around it really picks up from the Amazon business.

We almost bought an old motel in Wisconsin a few years ago. I would love to redo one.

My vote would be southside motel on Thomas Delpit

I used the timeline on Google Earth, and could still see the galvanized roof in January 2015. It disappeared around March 2015.
It was next door to Gulf Coast Occupational Medicine and Russell Pools.

The Shades has been kept remarkably clean. The Google reviews are mostly positive.
I remember how we'd always see people in the swimming pool when leaving Cortana.

I got “quoted” in the article for Abandoned Baton Rouge, who knew? I stand by my previous quote, it was mysterious and eery. Riding by there at night on my bike after closing down McDonald’s was pretty scary. Starting to question my parents’ judgment.

I remember once in the 90s I rode with some friends to a seedy location off Airline out toward Ascension Parish to buy alcohol. We walked through a wooded area and knocked. An old black guy answered a dutch door (opened the top), and sold us alcohol even though we were clearly teens. The Watson, maybe?

Was one of those fine establishments spoken of in the documentary “ Murder in the Bayou”?

This might technically be in Prairieville but the Royal motel that is behind the late Southern Kumfort strip clip on Airline.
Never been, but that place has to be what nightmares are made of.

I submit for consideration the Royal Motel on Airline right across the parish line in Prairieville.
Southern Kumfort's may have died. But, the Royal Motel lives on.

The strippers were moonlighting at the hotel?
As maids or by the hour?
