That area was strip club haven back in the 90's.
Three strip clubs within half a mile of each other - Southern Comfort, Cinnamon's, and Escapades.

I remember watching TV in that era when the clubs were advertising.

My sister pointed out someone in the commercial who used to ride horses with her who was now apparently working at one of those clubs.

I’m guessing that she was still riding well hung farm animals in some fashion despite no longer being at the stable.

We had some killer parties at the Belmont in high school. Late eighties.

Tons of solid nominations in this thread.

During my prime, the Alamo at 4243 Florida Boulevard was the title holder for most criminal activity. I honestly can’t count the amount of stolen cars that we chased from or recovered leaving that place. We used to joke that during the wars on terror they would likely find a green placard room key in the pockets of Sudaam Hussein when he was found.

The small ones deep in the hood always gave me the biggest creeps. North Foster motel at 1866 North Foster was probably the worst. Single entry exit choke point made it sketchy AF patrolling. Once you turn in, if you drive up on something there was no turning back.

Looking back on some of the risk we took during late night hours makes me both proud and sad. Some days I think it was worth it, sadly I know it was not on the others.

ETA: Present day champ is the OYO at 9901 Gwenedale. Proximity to the Interstate always is increases prostitution and the scum that associate with that life.

The Oak Court Manor was not quite the same mid century modern style as The Shades. It was demolished to build a Home Depot and a Wendy's.

The one next to BBQ Guy's HQ? Sort of across from the Verizon building with no windows?

Nothing left but the foundation now, but you can see it on street view if you turn back to 2011.

With that single entry onto the side street that can be watched, and a giant wall between the hidden parking area and North Foster...it looks like it was built to do sketchy shite out of view. I would feel bad for cops that had to go there for anything.

No but that is another old motel that probably needs to be torn down and replaced with a truck stop, car wash, or some other Amazon-focused business. I think there was a different 1940s/1950s motel around where that Sonic/Wendy's were built. But I might be getting that mixed up, but it have probably been torn down in the early 1990s or whenever that Home Depot was built.

I remember it being sketchy looking even back then when Cortana was in its heyday. That might be Wood Acres though.

There was another motel/truck stop type of place near the old stockyard on Airline where one of James Spader's opening scenes in Sex, Lies, and Videotape was filmed about 35 years ago. If that is still around, it's probably really creepy.

Sorry to hijack the thread but this got me to thinking of the old Price Murat on Nicholson just north of campus.

I remember seeing Hulk Hogan in the lobby of the old Oak Manor back around 1980 or 81.

I remember the Bellemont on Airline. My step-brother who is a magician went to a magic convention there around 1979 or so.

I’ve got an extended family member whose dad bought him an Oyo Hotel t-shirt as a birthday present since he spends so much time there.

In the 90's my high school baseball team came to Baton Rouge for 4-5 days to play some games. The first hotel we were in had to be one of the worst in Baton Rouge. Don't remember the name but it was on Airline I think and it was next to a sex shop named Heart's (or maybe Hart's). We ended up moving to a Shoney's Inn that wasn't very far away

That was the Motel 6, now called Super 6. We used to all pitch in $20 each and rent the honeymoon suite to have parties. There was a Shoney's next to a Day's Inn and a Hampton Inn in that same stretch.

Those hotels have changed names a few times since.

The guys on American Pickers would probably pay $10K for that Ten Flags Inn sign.

All of these aren’t in the top 20 of worst hotels in BR LOL. You need to go to 70805 area and ride around some.

My wife stayed there with her family for a livestock show.

She said it was barely one notch above sleeping in a ditch.
