I was frustrated in 7th grade art class because the stupid little pig that I was trying to make out of clay had just exploded in the kiln for like the 3rd time.

We turned on the TV after the 2nd plane hit, because that’s when it was clear this was a deliberate act, and the principal thought we should watch.

I remember feeling very confused by what we were watching. I guess I didn’t realize the seriousness of it until there were shots of people jumping. Then the Pentagon was hit. Then the towers fell. That was a crazy and awful feeling.

For some reason, I knew I had to keep the shards of that broken pig as a reminder of that day. They’re still in my old bedroom closet at my parents house.

That's quite the junior high football program to be practicing in the morning.

Not that weird. In a lot of places, football/weightlifting is a gym credit class.

I was only soon to be 11. Went to a super sheltered school who never told us, so I didn't know until I got home.

I was working as an electrician at Ormet. I was in the restroom washing my hands for our 9:00am break. That's when some one told me. I was like "Bull shite, that ain't true!"

I was at Fort Bragg in the barracks after doing PT that morning. I was running late when my first line supervisor called. I apologized for it but he said to stop right there and put on the news if I hadn't seen it as he said: "we're under attack, stay in the barracks until you hear back from me". Within an hour the entire post was on lockdown with guards posted everywhere and 100% ID check anywhere you went if you weren't in uniform.

just got back to my dorm from track practice. opened the door and my roommate and suite mates were watching the tv stunned.

i called my uncle who owns a business directly across the water in long island to check on them. he answered the phone and told me he was on top of his building watching everything unfold. as we were talking he started freaking out, the first tower started to collapse and we were both watching the same thing, him in person and me on tv. remember it like yesterday.

Ft Knox KY at 19K tabker BNCOC to get promoted to E-6. We were in the motor pool working on 50 cals when we started getting word. We got immediately put on lock down to figure out what to do with us because we were from different duty stations.

Oshsner hospital NOLA at work. My boss & upper administration were at a conference in DC. Their hotel was two miles from the Pentagon. They thought it was an earthquake. Somebody came running into conference room screaming about a plane crash & terrorist attack. My boss & har boss ran out the hotel, leaving everything but their purses, jumped in the rental & tore off outta there.
They got out before they shut down the roads. Everyone else was stuck in DC for a while. But communication was impossible & nobody knew where they were or if ok. My boss' husband was head of security at Ochsner at the time. Tough ex Marine. Had us locked down immediately.
Later in the day he came to our office and was sitting at his wife's desk when he finally got thru to her cell. We heard a sob then "she's ok, she's ok". Then we were all sobbing. Tears of shock, relief, anger, & camaraderie. The one and only time there has been a group hug at work !
I'll never forget my co-workers, our team from that day. They stay with me all these years later. Not sure why.
Every second of that day felt like a week. The fact that being nowhere near NY DC Penn. But having someone in the middle of it was gut wrenching, knowing there's nothing you can do.

NEVER FORGET NEVER FORGET
