I ran the same basic time as all the other 5’11 165 lb white guys on my HS team. Medium slow to very embarrassingly slow.
This was pretty much my situation only 10 pounds lighter. I thought I was fast until integration, then I found out what speed was.
The only instance I was timed in a 40 was when I was a sophomore in high school and I ran a 4.8. Hand timed was all we had back then.

Clicked on this thread just to make sure that answer had been given. The OT rarely disappoints.

Good 1st step or two. Played baseball infield. Any distance, clocked with an hour glass.

This can't be stressed enough
We had an explosion one night in college and a fuel tank blew up.
I outpaced every single person standing within 20 feet of it. A couple of brothers even made the comment after that my big arse was cookin. Ran straight out of my shoes

So you were faster than the average NFL corner or WR?

They never let me run it because they didn't want to embarrass the rest of the team. I obliged them by not running because I'm a team guy.

4.87.
That was going into my freshman year of college before I bulked up to be a lineman.

Got in the 4s a couple times in high school. I was more quick than fast and had good footwork.
Probably why I was an ok quarterback running the veer offense.

We didnt run 40’s in high school. Ran a hand-timed 5.6 in the 50. Don’t know what that would look like in the 40.

A LOT of liars in this thread, anything sub 4.7 is extremely fast and much faster than the average person.

A high 4.8 in high school
There must be a lot more D1 athletes on this site than I thought with all the 4.5-4.6 40 times
..... or a little embellishing
I'd have to think a sub 4.6 40 yard dash would put you in the 99th percentile of humans on the planet
