Summer of 1958 I worked at Ole Pete’s horse farm where I took. are of some of the best looking stallions and mares in SW LA. I made two dollars an hour and worked 52 hours for six days for 10 weeks. Ole Pete and his wife/business partner had 60 or so horses and hired ten of us with one boss over us. Some of the best food on tha farm also as daily we had cream of corn and spicy sausage with homemade biscuits. Pickle and mustard pie love affair started there!

I've been doing concrete since I was 13. My first job was being dropped off and the waste water treatment in Eufaula each day by a different company and having to manage myself and my time. I had to go around the bottom of the pond and chip the little edge off the bottom so we could install a liner for the pond. I worked every holiday and summer leading up to my senior year. I made minimum wage the whole time but a 13 year old rocking a $120 check going to the mall in 1991 was pretty fricking balling. Tacos at Taco Bell were .39 each, arcade was a quarter so a $10 bag of tokens would last me a couple weeks. fricking best years.

Bag Boy at Brookshires Grocery. It sucked in the summer & winter, but tips were nice & the bonus was that I got a lot of dates that way.

Pizza delivery. Tips were hit or miss but I liked listening to music for most of my shift.

Lindsey’s Spacewalk. Worked split shifts on weekends loading/unloading rented spacewalks or working picnics for them.

I remember cashing my first $88 paycheck. 2 of my 4 $20’s blew out the window in my way home from cashing the check.

My first job was reffing youth soccer because you could start at 14 and you could assistant ref the age groups younger than you. You didn’t clock in but got paid per game.
