What about the episode “When heaping hurts” and it showed a controlled group of kids who received assistance didnsubstanially worse in all aspects of life than a mirror group that did not?
They didn’t know what to do

well in more traditional work settings, the diference primarily comes down to 2 things
1. having kids
2. not being aggressive in asking for raises
both are seen as projecting toxic masculinity

i missed that one but it's true
charity often fricks poor populations
developed populations touring in poor areas accidentally do all sorts of bad things when they feel charitable

It's largely summed up by different ambitions. Women tend to gravitate to flexibility and lifestyle while men are driven by money.

Sounds to me like Uber needs to raise the pay rate for female drivers only so we can close this gap.
Shame on Uber.
Shame on Uber.

I’ll bet $10 that Uber changes its pay formula to account for the gender gap after reading this study
But if a woman takes this bet I’m only paying her $7

We still need to have the conversation, though

I wouldn't use Uber again if they paid women more for less work just because they want to look good.

Very interesting. Not surprising though. Thanks for the find.

Very interesting study. Just more evidence as to why a discriminatory gender wage gap is a myth.
Agreed.
Excellent read.

So basically what these morons are saying is humans are reduced to algorithms in a “gig” economy...
Yes, Uber drivers are matched by proximity, not by gender.

and this is a good thing???
Um yes, there's no discrimination.

and what is needed to get rid of gender pay inequality???
How about women as a whole start to care more about working?
You don't seem too bright here.

cathy newman, relax
the algorithm is how the rides/payment are delivered. rides and payment are actions, not humans

what? no
they're saying that EVEN WHEN CONTROLLED VIA ALGORITHM TO REMOVE SEX, pay gaps emerge
that implies there is no "fix" to the "gender pay gap"

I think you're definitely responding to a troll alter acct

Sure there is, but the types of women who cry about the gender gap usually aren't the ones who are willing to put in the work.

odds that these types of stories get spun as "victim blaming"?
It’s being spun on reddit as “it’s because women are scared of drunk dudes” ignoring that the most profitabile trips are airport trips
