It’s being spun on reddit as “it’s because women are scared of drunk dudes” ignoring that the most profitabile trips are airport trips
To be fair, I've left an airport pretty drunk before.

I would think the most profitable times are after big events (surge pricing), which would probably mean a lot of drunk people

women are terrible drivers.

We still need to have the conversation, though
It’s the issues we need to focus on. This article doesn’t disprove the problematic things in our workforce and frankly people aren’t willing to hear our conversation

Are people saying people who chose to work in a more difficult environment shouldn’t expect greater compensation compared to those who work in an easy environment?
Dealing with drunks means paid for rides can charge more. You want to get paid more? Deal with the drunks.

Because “the conversation” is bullshite. Women with the same qualifications who perform the same work do not get paid less than men. Period.

This might be a separate thread but Uber has been the millennial leftist’s nightmare company.
They are a tech company that basically improve every city they’ve entered and building a self driving car fleet that will save everyone money. Which on the surface is everything the faux-tech savvy millennial loves.
However, Uber disprupts outdated regulations, ruins gender pay BS, is pro free market, and all that fricking melts down reddit

no, I'm not saying any of that

My bad. I replied to your surge pricing comment after I read Dire Wolfs comment about women being afraid to deal with drunk men.
I edited my comment. Hopefully it’s not as stupid of a comment now

study after study shows it has everything to do with behavior and nothing to do with discrimination.

Well go figure. I’ll never understand why people think it’s not okay for one gender to be better at some things than the other gender. People are stupid.
It really bothers me. There are scientific reasons why genders are better at different things.
It is not nurture, it is nature.
Spacial recognition - Men
Color and light recognition - Women
Those are pretty benign things, but they're 100% true. That isn't sexist, that is science.

When compared job for job, most of the gap goes away and there is about a 5% gap. That’s very similar to the 7% gap found with Uber.
It boils down to personal choices. Simple as that.
The freakonomics podcast was great about this this week

charity often fricks poor populations
Africa is a perfect example.
Our system of charity is literally the worst thing we have done to that continent and, IMO, more damaging long term than the slave trade.

Do you really think there won’t be an algorithm created to get rid of the descrepancy? The idea behind the research is to show that there is a benefit to being able to explain human behavior through algorithms. The next step will be to use the algorithm to control human behavior and a gig economy allows this to happen quite easily.

There is no way I'd want my wife working the same areas and times that I make the best money in. Also, I notice there aren't nearly as many female drivers out at those times compared to "safer" times of the day and locations.
This is what those wanting to keep the "discriminatory gender pay gap" mantra going will focus on. They will blame society and unsafe working conditions that women experience as the reason why female Uber drivers can't make as much. They are just as capable and willing but it is unsafe. It's not the woman's fault, it is the predatory man who prevents women drivers from making as much.
That will be the spin on this study.
