Lots of bike people on the OT

The streets have been awesome lately with little to no traffic.

Specialized Shiv Stage 2. I've been meaning to get something more for around the neighborhood.

are you in phoenix?

i wouldn't even think of riding desert classic or national right now. insane amounts of people even when we aren't having a pandemic.

i live close to several PMP trailheads and everything in the preserve has been crowded as well. i can ride in, but still try to go during off-peak hours. have been riding the road bike a lot more. brown's ranch is another good option - the trailheads are busy but once you get out there, you can keep your distance from people. have been seeing way more snakes than usual, though.

Yea, I do the gravel and mtb races around central Texas. I’m much more competitive on the gravel bike than then mtb. Tons of weekend warrior guys just send it and kick my arse in the mtb races.

I am not. Good friends of mine are there, one riding national almost every day per strava. I visited this past November and we did a couple south mountain days then a day in Sedona on Highline, Hogs and Hangover. Unreal day.

awesome! i know the city has restricted access to some of the south mountain parking lots (esp. pima canyon), glad your buddies can still get in. i have friends still riding desert classic every day, but they live close enough to ride in.

have ridden a bit in sedona, but the exposure on hangover keeps me away. nate hills "follow cam friday" video of hangover is insane. i come from a xc background, so it takes me a little longer to learn and get comfortable with the really techy gnar stuff. but man, is it fun.

I just purchased a Specialized Sirrus SS on sale from Mikes Bikes. I was back and forth between a geared bike and the single-speed. I liked the frame design on the Sirrus and that the stock tires were 30mm (shite roads here).

I’ll primarily be city riding in New Orleans with the occasional longer fitness ride.

I hope I made the right decision w/ the single speed. Thoughts?

Yes. It will make you a stronger rider because you can't hide from wind or hills. It's less hassle to worry about with upkeep and everything. That will be a fine beater bike.

Before long, you will turn it into a fixed gear.

you got plans for how you built that rack?

I could draw them up. It's pretty simple construction with 2x6's. I think all material was right at $100. I topped it to make it look like a ladder bridge and match the trim of the rest of the space.

just purchased a 2017 Specialized crosstrail that was ridden once. Having it shipped to the house. What are some of the first accessories I should get for it?

- convert tires to stan's no-tubes so you wont flat-out 10 miles from a road and have to walk your bike back.
- miniature folding hex/tool kit
- 2 camelback water bottles (unless you got a backpack already) and cages if it didnt come with 2 already
- helmet
- gloves (if you're doing lots of singletrack) or you'll develop numbness in your palms
- spd pedals? get a pair of mtn bike shoes with recessed cleats that you can still walk around in
- wrap around glasses to protect your eyes from branches
- 8 panel shorts
- headband or something to keep the sweat out of your eyes
- good floor pump
- strava account
- garmin bike computer
- led headlight & led taillight
- smallest wedge you can find to fit under your saddle to carry cash/cc, tool kit, phone.
