So your anecdotal experience of Bogalusa equates to "The South?"
If you are from the South, it certainly produced at least one narrow minded, prejudiced person.
Your wise words have convinced me that the half century of my observations are incorrect.
I’ll now try to hire folks exclusively from Bogalusa and get back to you on my experiences.

Go hang out in Bogalusa (not a coastal liberal enclave) for a week and report back your findings.
Oh, I get your point. You'll get no argument from me about such pristine cosmopolitan destination resorts such as Bogalusa and many others in the South; I am just asserting that there is tribalism, indifference, indolence and ignorance in every single corner of this country. It is not in any way mutually exclusive to the South.
Hey, I probably don't have as many passport/visa stamps as you do, but I do have quite a few, and have lived and traveled all over the planet through the years...not trying to pick a fight with you in any way, just saying, it's not JUST the South.....

There are wonderful folks of all colors and educational level in the South.
Trying to make this into a racial issue is a red herring as far as I’m concerned.
The culture of the rural US South is not evolving in a positive way.

I spent a long weekend last week in rural Virginia, about 60 miles from DC. I have to say, I was constantly amazed at how “southern” the area felt to me (in a good way).
Everyone was incredibly friendly, things moved slowly (again, in a good way), and hearing a woman say “bless her heart” in conversation was the icing on the cake.
Growing up in south LA, I never would have thought of Virginia as southern. And I know that certain areas of Virginia skew more northern, but that trip gave me a new perspective on the state.

Virginia is about as good as a blue state as you can get. The recent political issues are an aberration there and not the rule. It’s been run by good people and has been successful for a large part of its very long and eventful history. It has diverse a diverse geography, economy, and a population that is kind and intelligent. It is a great state that the south should be proud to call its own. Once you get south of Fredericksburg you wouldn’t mistake yourself for being in the south.

Yeah I laughed at his stupidity as well.

I'm not a south hater by any means whatsoever, but you have to be self aware

We have a common set of values, but the states can vary, wildly. The old south, Virginia, the Carolinas, have a strong English influence.
Parts of Virginia feel like Somerset, with the low stone walls, and fox hunters dressed in pinks, racing across open fields.
In those cultural maps of America, it’s sometimes marked as it’s own sub region.

You have the entirety of Texas and Florida but not Alabama and Tennessee?
Posted on 5/4/19 at 6:39 pm to Parmen
Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.
Posted on 5/4/19 at 7:03 pm to Parmen
East Texas
Arkansas
Alabama
Tennessee excluding Nashville (sadly)
Rural Virginia and North Carolina
South Carolina
Georgia
The Florida Panhandle
Mississippi
Louisiana north of I10/12
With Louisiana, the cultural enclaves are large enough to be separated fully from the south. Cajun country and NOLA are their own little worlds.
As for Texas, they seem to have exclaves, with Mexico dominating a large portion. Hell, at this point, Austin could be an exclave of California (Nashville seems next on California's invasion plan). In short, outside of East Texas, it just isn't part of tbe south culturally imho.

To me, the South is as much a state of mind as it is a region. In addition to the states one thinks of as the Old South, I’ve found pockets of southern couture and thinking throughout the West. The northeast and west coast? Lost causes.
Of course, there are exceptions everywhere but generally speaking, the states of the confederacy still retain an identity that I find reassuring.

Gotta disagree here. While Nashville does have a ton of transplants(wish they'd stop coming) this is the case with all big cities. And for a city its size I'd argue that Nashville celebrates its Southern/country roots disproportionately
Plus, we've got this

Texas was in the Confederacy but we are not The South.
What a stupid thing to say, as though the whole south was one single monochromatic culture. That’s like saying Louisiana isn’t the South because they’re Cajun. Or saying western North Carolina and eastern Kentucky aren’t Southern because they’re hillbillies. The South has a wide range of sub-cultures. One of those is Texan.
