What states do you consider to be in the "the South" today?

Seems like the historical boundaries of what is considered southern and what is considered today to be southern is different. Are Virginia, North Carolina, or Kentucky considered southern still? Is Texas considered southern?

All of those states are Southern, but what that means has changed over the years. And "The South" is not just some gigantic Cracker Barrel fantasy-land. It's never been homogeneous, viz. New Orleans, Miami, etc.

Some of those states are part of other regions, too. Texas is definitely Western.

Generally east of 35 but leaves a whole lot that isn’t southern.

That's only because the rest of the state is North Mexico.

"Texas is the new Mexico" is the new "Orange is the New Black is the new Oz."

Whatever ones are mentioned in the song Bonny Blue Flag.

Virginia is an interesting state. Look at a county electoral map and it looks 90% red/rural/southern/hunting/fishing/South, but vote wise they have turned because of the massive population of blue/progressive transplants in Fairfax County and other counties close to D.C.

He said "South," not coastal city bubbles of liberals seeking affirmation from sniffing each other's assholes.

Hard South: LA, MS, AL, GA, TN, SC, AR, FL (minus South FL)
South, but not as hardcore: VA, NC, KY
Southwest states that are partially Southern: TX (East TX) and OK (Southeast OK)
Midwest with a portion that is Southern: MO (southern part)

Go hang out in Bogalusa (not a coastal liberal enclave) for a week and report back your findings.

Here’s a cheat sheet for three words to be used in the report:

Indifference
Indolence
Ignorance

So your anecdotal experience of Bogalusa equates to "The South?"

If you are from the South, it certainly produced at least one narrow minded, prejudiced person.
