Nacogodoches is the most the Louisiana town in Texas (in the worst ways), and most of Louisiana is considered the Deep South so that city has my vote.

Northern Oklahoma is more midwestern. Tulsa has a Midwest vibe. Okc south is basically north Texas.
Eastern Oklahoma from Tulsa to the Arkansas and Texas lines is basically the South culturally and geographically

Leesville, LA
You have coonasses if you go South or SE 1 town. You have Burkeville, TX if you go West 1 town. Rednecks to the North.

Plenty of towns in Eastern California and Southern/Eastern Oregon are culturally more of a fit with the modern south than their respective states.

Prob somewhere like San Marcos or New Braunfells. My retirement plan.

New braunfels is just German. Not western or southern.
San Marcos is just a college town.
Gotta go to the smaller towns now for that culture

I agree Oklahoma is a good answer here. There seems to be no consensus on whether it’s southern or midwestern
A good portion of Eastern Oklahoma is synonymous with Arkansas and Tennessee both geographically and culturally. It’s extremely southern feeling. You could be blindly dropped in there and wouldn’t know the difference.
Combine that with strong western cowboy and ranching heritage on the central to western portion and here we are.
The more you dive in, the more interesting Oklahoma actually is. It’s a major crossroads in America.

If its west of there it ain't by a helluva lot.
Houston is pretty much southern....but I don't know how western it is....Dallas is the midwest....far more culturally similar to chicago and detroit than Atlanta and New Orleans....

I was happily surprised to find that SE New Mexico was pretty similar to the rural south as far as people go....but its way to Texas to be properly southern. People are great though....
