Isn’t he pretty much purely utilitarian?
Yes, but not the classical version of Bentham and Mills. He followed the Hare version of preference utilitarianism. Singer worked on the practical application of Hare's ideas. He has changed in his later years to a different form of utilitarianism, hedonistic utilitarianism which bends back more to the Bentham/Mills concept but I haven't read much of his writings on this.

A faux-intellectual shite stirrer. He is a manipulator of language for cheap gotchas, nothing more. Tedious in the extreme.

These philosophers do not live today, but there has been a big uptick in people interested in Stoicism the last 10 years, with several books being published. Zerno, Epictitus and Macrus Aurealius (sp?) ..some of their thoughts are very applicable to modern times.

Where am I this essay really changed my mind completely on consciousness and the idea of the "self". It has also led me to believe that what we call free will is mostly an illusion, Im not 100% sold that it is ENTIRELY an illusion, but mostly an illusion. here is another good video which condenses another interesting essay on consciousness: Bat Essay

Stefan Molyneux...hopefully. Hans Hoppe will probably be known for a looong time after he's gone.
I absolutely love Thomas Sowell. He single handedly changed the way I see how the world works, but I don't think he'd consider himself a philosopher. Just mostly an empiricist in the realm of economics and society.

Bear in mind that for hundreds of years the hard sciences, theology, and the humanities more or less came under the valence of philosophy. During the enlightenment philosophy began to dissolve into various disciplines. Therefore it stands to reason we mostly study philosophy historically.
With that said, the Slovenian school led by Zizek will be studied. Badiou in France. Habermas still writing. The accelerationists led by Nick Land. Chomsky is no longer writing so I’m not sure why he’s brought up.

I think that, through the enmeshment of academia and the technocracy in the 20th century, there aren’t really as many true theoretical philosophers. Those who would have been drawn to that in prior generations are more likely to be researching/making economic and social and tech policy.
