If interest income counts as income in this scenario then it would have to be in the range of 25-30 million.
If we are allowed to earn interest as part of this, I think 5-8 million is the number.

I would at least put it in the bank, so I would accrue interest income.
To never earn wages or compensation for labor/services?
15 million

20 million and I'd quit my job today. Gotta remember your self funded medical coverage would skyrocket due to Obama care.

That's a yuuuuuge distinction. If you have to live off the principal the amount is much, much higher.

This before or after tax? I'd want 8 figures post tax to never earn another dime

If I were guaranteed to keep the same life style I have now for the rest of my life, I could part ways with work for about $5 million after tax minimum.
Adjust that for whatever the future value of the dollar is 35 years down the road.

Somewhere between 3 and 5 million. That way I could put it in a security and live off the interest.

10 million drawn out at 200K per year would last 50 years, the average person starting to work today will not realize that income level in their lifetime.

After doing some rough calculations, the ballpark number I've come up with is:
$8,247,392.01.

No interest earned?
If so $6,000,000
If so $6,000,000

It's around $3-5M. With that you can earn a return along with a small amount of principle spent each year. I would target having the whole lump spent before I die at 75. If I make 70 then may need to add five years to the plan. Screw leaving any inheritance

None, I love working, a life of leisure is a boring and unfulfilling one.

When I quit working everyone told me that one day I would miss working, 6 years later I am still waiting for that day, my biggest issue is that even with out a job I still don't have enough time.

2 million would do it easily. I have 10 years until retirement
