Why would a person work for $5k when they could take vacation for 3-4 weeks and be paid 3/4 or so of that while NOT working.
I agree: your bosses are ignorant.

I honestly don’t know how someone could function with 10 days of PTO. I usually take two 7 day vacations a year along with several long weekends, add in single days for hunting or fishing and I’m probably closer to 40 days. Time off is way more important to me than money
ETA: accounts payable…job ad for 2 weeks with not one application

One of the few benefits of this profession is that once you're at a certain level nobody cares where you are or what you're doing. I don't even have PTO, tbh.

They're just stubborn boomers, and are likely going to lose me over it. I've had 2 very promising interviews where both positions would greatly improve my own work/life balance. I've worked nearly every weekend the past 10 months because they can't find anyone, and I'm sick of it. I don't mind pulling my weight during the week and working a few extra hours here and there, but screw working nearly every weekend.

I used Indeed earlier this year and the results for us as an employer were not good.
Now we use our PMs and lead techs to get in the weeds and find us competent people. They're as invested in getting good people as much as we are and they know more people at the tech level in the industry than us.

People are fighting over accountants!

I am trying to fill a West Coast based oustide sales position that comes with a $100K salary and the applicants leave much to be desired. Out of the 50+ submissions only 3 stood out. HR is doing initial phone interviews next week. We'll see how it goes.

I didn't mind this in my 20s or 30's. After that, screw it.
Im not that money motivated. I prefer something interesting, with a LOT of time off. I'm putting everything in retirement anyway.

Both of these opportunities came to me via word of mouth from people I know.

I think the plumbers do better than the electricians in my area. No one wants to be a plumber apparently.
If you have a high school boy looking for extra money; encourage him to take part time jobs helping out a plumber. They are out there, and it's become a lucrative trade to understand especially if you run your own shop.

Eta:But I agree with what y'all are saying about it being hard to find a good accountant. Recently I've been getting a couple calls a week from industry wanting to interview me. It wasn't like that in the past.

There's a shitload here.
if you're looking for a 100k there's a bunch around here. The mines start at 80K and you get to 100K within two years.
Cops are hiring, State is hiring.
You probably need to find another location where jobs aren't depressed.

I have dual degrees in Accounting and Finance but, I didn’t sit for my CPA. I’m CPA eligible and have been looking at moving on from my current position. I have over 15 years experience. I haven’t been able to find anything that gives me the work/home balance along with a decent pay and benefits package. If any of you guys know of something on the Northshore, I’m definitely willing to listen.
I also supervise an Accountant that resigned to work for the IRS at the beginning of September. We’ve been trying to bring someone in and so far we have had very few applicants and the ones that have applied won’t return calls/emails to setup an interview.

This is all crazy but I hope we don't go off the deep end and find ways to give workers better situations. Without a doubt you need to offer people more time off than 2 weeks. What hurts me is that people in the restaurant industry aren't wanting to work weekends. A bit of a rock and a hard place there

About to put my two weeks in for a better job. I’m in project sales and tired of working with the douche project managing team. Have fun filling that position with a qualified technical sales engineer.
