If I was getting another one, it would be another Australian Shepherd. I think all herding dogs, including mixes, can be great dogs. Aussies are just smart, athletic, energetic, loyal, and fun. Sometimes too smart and they have an incredibly large vocabulary. They do shed, however.

Gotta go with Dachshunds, by far the best!

German Shepherd is my clear cut favorite. Eager to learn, eager to find a purpose. Brilliant dogs, and are a natural for home protection, or just being your pal. I absolutely love the breed.

these are a lot of fun to watch. The herding instinct is so ingrained in them , they just can't help it.
I had one that would try to herd the dragonflies in out yard.

Labs from a line with an on/off switch are hard to beat. If I had more places to rabbit hunt I would have beagles again. Beagles are great little dogs.

Siberian Husky
Incredible breed if you live in colder climates. Good with family. In fact the Husky's were originally bred by nomadic tribes to keep the kids company and entertained. The work/sled part of their breeding was in conjunction with that.
Down side is they are extremely social and not a good idea to leave them alone in the house. Because they are so social they are prone to separation anxiety and will tear everything up. Not a good dog for the south in the summer..

Frenchies are fun. I’d describe them more as clingy than loyal though.
They may be the most entertaining breed to be around. Little gremlin-clowns.

I've had many different breeds of dogs growing up. Obviously, it depends on the purpose of the dog. Top to bottom, the best I've had was a mutt.
