My last name isn't common, and using genealogy websites, like Family Search, I hit a dead end at my paternal great-great grandfather.

Last month, I tried using AI for some help, which pointed me towards catholic marriage records.

I discovered that my last name goes back to the Hautes-Pyrénées region of France. Specifically the village of Castelvieilh.

We thought our last name was French, but weren't 100% sure as it may also be Italian, or a derivative of a longer last name that was shortened at some point in the past. But no, its French and has been around since at least the early 1600s.

So, knowing that, I'm part Cajun, part Spanish from the Louisiana Islenos, part French, and 100% sex machine.

I'm half Tennessean, half Mississippian, and the last half Louisianian.

My sister did the DNA test through 23 and Me I believe. I tried to talk her out of it, but she doesn't listen.

Anyway, the results came back, and there was very little French that they found, which was odd since as I mentioned in a previous post at least half our ancestry should be French. But, it had a lot of Scottish. Which was also odd, because my genealogy I've discovered has zero Scottish in it.

She also gets periodic emails that amends the ancestry she was originally sent. Why would they have to amend something that's tied to one's DNA?

Never taken a dna test but when I google the origin of my last name it says it’s an English surname originating during the medieval period.

Swede, Dutch, English, Irish, and Kraut. Mostly Kraut.

I’ve done this too and it’s interesting to see. People glorify their homelands but truly know nothing about it. I’m American first and foremost

You can trace you genealogy through birth and marriage records. There is no need to give a company your genetic information.
